For Professor of Musicology Robert Shay, the many mysteries of Purcell鈥檚 鈥淒ido and Aeneas鈥� are too important to ignore. His critical edition of the English composer鈥檚 score provides fresh answers to a number of questions.

Venezuelan Andres Orco is a DMA guitar student in our Thompson Jazz Studies Program with a special interest in advanced rhythm and meter in jazz; as such, he鈥檚 also pursuing a Certificate in Music Theory. 鈥淭hrough the certificate program, I received a multidisciplinary education that I think has made me a more well-rounded musician and educator.鈥�

Our world music ensembles mark three decades of exploring artistic identity, intercultural collaboration, global pedagogy and multidisciplinary approaches to music-making at the College of Music.

鈥淲hen I think about the College of Music, I think about a vibrant learning environment and a vibrant space to grow,鈥� says alumna Sarah Stoneback. 鈥淭he College of Music provided me the skills and tools that I keep developing in pursuing my own teaching career.鈥�

For undergraduate and graduate students, a new biannual award celebrates the works and legacy of late composer Alex Craig.

On Feb. 26, undergraduate pianist Jude Dow-Hygelund and graduate soprano Dawna Rae Warren were awarded first prizes in the College of Music鈥檚 annual Honors Competition. Congratulations to all participating student competitors and collaborative pianists!

For first-year PhD student Laura Klein, a visit to Jane Austen鈥檚 House in Chawton, Hampshire, inspired 鈥淭he Jane Austen Playlist: Love and Music of Regency England.鈥� On Feb. 25, Klein will capture the essence of Austen鈥檚 six major novels in a dramatized performance.
