We鈥檙e excited to welcome Associate Professor of Double Bass Susan Cahill as the newest addition to the esteemed faculty of the CU 麻豆影院 College of Music.

As part of the College of Music鈥檚 approach to developing multiskilled, multifacted universal musicians, the Musicians鈥� Wellness Program provides students with a variety of strategies and information to help them achieve peak performance, prevent injury and cultivate robust mental health throughout their careers鈥�and overall lives.

In this edition of the Dean鈥檚 Downbeat, Dean John Davis offers reflections and a vision for the future as he shares highlights from our newly revamped annual digital magazine鈥擟olorado Music. 鈥�...our mission matters more than ever. Because what we do as musicians requires not only skill, but humanity鈥攖hat is, the simultaneous conveyance of emotion, connection and understanding. Colorado Music takes stock of how far we鈥檝e come.鈥�

Professor of Music Education and CMEA Hall of Fame inductee James Austin, Professor of Double Bass Paul Erhard, Associate Professor of Trombone William Stanley, and Professor of Piano and former Dean Daniel Sher have dedicated their careers to inspiring up-and-coming musicians and educators. We reflect on their contributions, achievements and legacy with gratitude.

In 2013, Allan McMurray retired after 35 years as professor at the College of Music, directing our bands, developing the master鈥檚 and doctoral programs in instrumental conducting, and more. He was the college鈥檚 first to receive a lifetime appointment as a Distinguished Professor and he鈥檚 recently been awarded the University Medal by the CU Board of Regents.

At the College of Music鈥檚 commencement ceremony on May 11, we鈥檙e thrilled to honor Margot + Christopher Brauchli with the College of Music鈥檚 2023 Distinguished Service Award for their decades-long loyal support.

Congratulations to Izzy Fincher鈥攖he College of Music鈥檚 Outstanding Graduating Senior this spring鈥攚ho will graduate with a BM in classical guitar performance, a BA in journalism, a business minor with a Music Entrepreneurship Certificate and a Music Theory Certificate, exemplifying the College of Music鈥檚 universal musician mission.

At the College of Music鈥檚 commencement ceremony on May 11, we鈥檙e thrilled to welcome alumnus Ashraf Sewailam back to campus 鈥� and to present him the College of Music鈥檚 2023 Distinguished Alumnus Award!

In addition to Carl Orff鈥檚 鈥淐armina Burana鈥� and our collaboration with El Sistema Colorado, the College of Music鈥檚 upcoming CU at Boettcher concert will feature the world premiere of composer Carter Pann鈥檚 new work: his five-movement, 17-minute Symphony No. 3鈥撯�淥n The Importance of Our Democracy.鈥�

Erika Gossett will graduate next month with a BM in flute performance, as well as a BA in media studies, a minor in business and a Music Entrepreneurship Certificate, exemplifying the College of Music鈥檚 universal musician vision. Additionally, her climate change-focused venture, Pi帽a Designs, is a finalist in the New Venture Challenge. Finals are April 12: Join us!
