TheÌýDepartment of Mechanical Engineering has a new tradition: the ME Fall Festival. The event – hosted by the department's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Working Group – isÌýdesigned toÌýcelebrate the diverse cultures within ME byÌýhighlightingÌýthe holidays and observances that various groups recognize during the fall season.

The DEI Working Group held the 2021 ME Fall Festival on Thursday, Oct. 28. ME students,Ìýfaculty and staff all joined together toÌýshare their own traditions, learn about their peers’ backgrounds, celebrate our differences and help build the department’s diversity and inclusive culture.Ìý

StudentsÌýparticipated in various activities, including a logo design competition, a multicultural craft station and interactive games. More than 20 students won gift cards to Gravity Cafe for completing the DEI Working Group's BINGO Game. Everyone was able to taste coffee from around the world brewed by students in the Design of Coffee course and eat salsa made by lecturer Carmen Pacheco-Borden's company . There were also opportunities for students, faculty and staffÌýtoÌýsubmit new ideas and suggestions to the DEI Working Group.

The DEI Working Group thanks everyone for participating in the inaugual ME Fall Festival! We look forward to continuing conversations about diversity, equity and inclusion in the department.
