Congratulations to professor Baowen Li, a 2017 recipient of the prestigious Brillouin Medal.
The CU 麻豆影院 mechanical engineering professor receiving the award along with two collaborators during the held this month in Changsha, China.
The medal, which is awarded once every two years, recognizes researchers for major contributions to the field of phononics, which is the study and manipulation of vibrations at the quantum level.
Li, Pofessor Emeritus Giulio Casati of the University of Insubria at Como and Professor Lei Wang of Renmin University of China are receiving the recognition for their invention of the 鈥減hononic rectifier, diode, and transistor,鈥 which can control the directional flow of heat in a quantum system.
The trio are longtime collaborators. Wang completed postdoctoral work under Li, and Casati was previously a visiting professor in Li's research group.
The Brillouin Medal is named for Leon Brillouin, who made major scientific advancements in quantum mechanics and condensed matter physics during the first half of the 20th century.
