ULA Co-presidents from left to right: Livvy Bahr, Turner Land, Jaimie Jettmar, and Morgan Jones
What is the Undergraduate Linguistics Association?
Majors and minors in CU Â鶹ӰԺ’s Department of Linguistics are automatically members of the Undergraduate Linguistics Association (ULA). Each year, ULA brings in a new slate of officers who serve as liaisons between undergraduate students and the department, sharing student needs, concerns, and interests with the faculty while working to create excitement for the undergraduate major. In addition to organizing special events on topics such as careers in linguistics and/or applying to graduate school, ULA officers work with the Ling Club and other undergraduates to select a speaker for the annual Undergraduate Distinguished Lecture series. The ULA faculty advisor for the 2023-2024 year is Prof. Kira Hall, Associate Chair of Undergraduate Studies (kira.hall@colorado.edu).
The ULA officers for the 2023-2024 year are Olivia Bahr, Turner Land,  Jaimie Jettmar, and Morgan Jones, who will all share the Co-President position.Â
Olivia Bahr (Livvy) (Co-President, 2023-2024) I'm a junior Linguistics major with a computer science minor. I'm passionate about All areas of linguistics but am specifically interested in computational linguistics and pragmatics. I'm also an officer for the linguistics club, running the discord server, and helping to manage the creation of the CU Â鶹ӰԺ conlang!
Turner Land (Co-President, 2023-2024) I am a junior undergrad majoring in Linguistics and International Affairs. I am especially interested in phonology and Indo-European linguistics. In my free time, I like to practice piano and DJ on Radio 1190.
Jaimie Jettmar (Co-President, 2023-2024) Hi! I'm in my junior year of my undergraduate degree in Linguistics with a minor in Computer Science. I love doing outdoorsy things like outdoor climbing and hiking, and I'm more than happy to drive for hours before the sun rises for those sick 14er sends! I'm really excited to be a part of ULA this year and to participate more in the LING community.
Morgan Jones (Co-President, 2023-2024) My name is Morgan Jones and I am a senior studying Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences and Linguistics. I also have a minor in Spanish, with the goal of becoming bilingual. In my free time, I enjoy hiking, reading, and crochet. I'm currently close to finishing my first crocheted blanket.
