Nomination & Selection Process

The Student Leaders of the Year (SLOY) Fellows Program seeks to recognize and elevate CU Â鶹ӰԺ’s most exceptional student leaders. This program identifies students who demonstrate leadership potential, are committed to personal growth, and have made meaningful contributions to their communities. Below is an overview of the nomination and selection process.


Nomination Process

Who Can Nominate?
Nominations for the SLOY Fellows Program can be made by CU Â鶹ӰԺ faculty, staff, or student leaders of affiliate programs within the Center for Leadership. Affiliates are encouraged to nominate as many students as they believe embody the program's values and leadership potential. Spots will be limited.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Nominees must be current students with at least one full year remaining at CU Â鶹ӰԺ.
  • They must demonstrate character, a commitment to making positive changes within their campus or community, and a growth mindset.

Nomination Form:
To nominate a student, please complete the Nomination Form.


Application Process

Once a student is nominated, they will receive an invitation to complete the SLOY Fellows Program Application. The application includes four short-answer questions designed to assess leadership qualities, personal motivation, and community impact.


Selection Process

After applications are submitted, the selection committee will review applications based on the following key criteria:

  1. Leadership: Demonstrated leadership in academic, extracurricular, or community involvement.
  2. Commitment to Growth: A clear desire and motivation to continue developing leadership skills and making a positive impact.
  3. Character: Alignment with the values of the Center for Leadership, including humility, integrity, and courage. 
  4. Change-making: Contributions to campus, local, or global communities through leadership initiatives, service, or advocacy.

Selection Committee:
The selection committee will consist of CU Â鶹ӰԺ faculty, staff, and members of the Center for Leadership board, all committed to advancing student development and fostering inclusive, impactful leadership. After a thorough review of nominations and applications, selected students will be invited to join the SLOY Fellows Program for the upcoming academic year.


Timeline

  • Nomination Period: Opens January 6, 2025 – Closes February 6, 2025
  • Application Period: Opens February 7, 2025 – Closes March 7, 2025
  • Selection Announcement: Final Fellows will be notified by April 4, 2025
