With his funds, Erik will survey two regions in the mountains of Montana and Idaho where hybridization between gray-crowned rosy finches and black rosy finches has been reported.
Kathryn will perform genomic analyses of black-capped and mountain chickadees to study patterns of hybridization relative to human-mediated disturbances.
Angela will investigate the role that parasites play in maintaining species boundaries by looking at how blood-feeding fly larvae affect the fitness of hybrid chickadees.
