Physiology Lab UGTA
Undergraduate Teaching Assistants
If you enjoyed Physiology Lab and are interested in teaching it, or helping with the lab behind the scenes, you may be eligible to receive academic credit for these activities.
Application guidelines:
- Applicants must earn a B- or better in the course to be eligible for a UGTA position.
- There are currently 3 different UGTA positions for Physiology Lab:
- UGTA - assist the graduate TA/Instructor in the classroom with the lab
- UGTA Lab Assistant - assist the Lab Coordinator behind the scenes with lab-related projects
- UGTA Team Leader - train new UGTAs in addition to assist the graduate TA/instructor in the classroom with the lab
- UGTA Team Leader applicants are preferred to have at least 1 semester of IPHY 3435 UGTA experience to be eligible to apply for a UGTA Team Leader position.
- All UGTA positions will require that you are in the lab for a total of 4 hours per week and that you attend a weekly preparatory meeting.
- All UGTAs will be enrolled in IPHY 3010-802: Teaching in Integrative Physiology, which is a 2-credit course. The IPHY department will allow you to receive up to 6 credits in IPHY 3010, so you could be a UGTA a maximum of 3 times.
- If you apply for a UGTA position (in the classroom), you must be available for at least one of the lab sections. The general lab section meeting times are shown below, but change depending on the semester:
- Fall term:
- Mondays: 8-11:50am, 12:20-4:10pm, 4:25-8:15pm

- Summer term:

- Fall term:
- If you apply for a UGTA Lab Assistant position, you can break your weekly 4-hour lab commitment into two 2-hour times each week.
- The application will always be available on this website, but you cannot apply until you have finalized your schedule for the semester when you want to teach. If you are offered a UGTA position, you will be offered a specific lab section time and we will assume that your availability provided on the application has not changed.
- If you are a currently enrolled student, you cannot apply for a UGTA position until after you have completed through Lab 7 in the class. If you are offered a position, the offer will be contingent upon you earning a B- or better in the course.
- There is not a strict deadline for when to submit your application, but the Lab Coordinator will begin reviewing applications and offering positions until all positions have been filled starting on the following dates:
- Summer term applicants: Application reviews will begin on April 1st
- Fall term applicants: Application reviews will begin on May 1st
- Spring term applicants: Application reviews will begin on November 1st
- There is a single application for the three UGTA positions that can be found here:
