This position is a campus officer and member of the chancellor's cabinet, providing leadership for the financial management, operational, and planning activities of the campus. A senior advisor to the chancellor, the position serves as the campus chief operating officer (COO) with responsibilities for university organizational strategy, finance and business strategy, data analytics, budget and capital planning, space management, accounting controls and operations, policy analysis, creating a culture of innovation, enrollment management, human resources, facilities management, sustainability, information technology, public safety and compliance. This position is responsible for developing and implementing the campus resource allocation process and implementing the integrated resource management strategy for the annual operating budget. In addition, this position supervises the operational management of Athletics.听

The Executive Vice Chancellor/ Chief Operating Officer听leads our Strategic Resources and Support (SRS) Team. This team utilizes collective leadership and a broad campus view to manage shared campus resources in a manner that serves the entire institution. By staying closely aligned and supportive of each other鈥檚 work, the team ensures that valuable improvements can be implemented quickly and shared widely. We optimize resources in mission-critical areas by ensuring collaborative holistic solutions to complex challenges.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

This position provides leadership that supports mission critical goals including providing critically important strategic direction for the operational aspects of the university. Specifically:听

  • The COO is responsible for developing and leading their team, providing professional development and mentoring. The COO ensures the campus priorities of creating an inclusive and innovative environment are embraced and enhanced by the campus and the SRS division.
  • The COO is responsible for developing a forward-thinking organization that is responsive to both the needs of the university community as well as anticipating the changing needs of the world.
  • The COO will support the University's efforts to develop new sources of revenue to ensure long-term financial health through data, analysis, and planning with the Chancellor, Provost and campus leaders. By encouraging and supporting a culture of innovation, this position uses creativity to help solve these issues and ensures that areas of responsibility are strong resourced for the campus.
  • The COO will use a metric driven approach to balance day to day operations with innovation and growth. This position is responsible for ensuring the university is using a data-informed approach to its decision making and future planning.
  • The COO develops and maintains productive and cooperative working relationships with campus administrative and academic leadership to ensure that efforts are coordinated, efficient, and continuously improved. The COO leads by example by providing a high quality of service in a timely manner and ensures that their team's service engenders trust and confidence among both internal and external constituents.
  • This position develops and maintains communications and close relationships with CU System Administration, peers at the other CU campuses, and staff members from key state agencies and offices. The position maintains communication with employees, students, faculty, various employee governance organizations, administrative personnel, deans, directors, and vice chancellors.
  • This position is responsible for ensuring sound financial management throughout the university. The COO will provide leadership to the campus' audit processes, working with the Campus Controller and the campus Audit Liaison, to ensure responsiveness and proactively addressing issues.听
  • Represent the university with appropriate external agencies and organizations and serve, as directed by the Chancellor, to participate on university standing and special committees.
  • This position keeps current about issues affecting the university (associated with Federal, State, Institutional, and Peer constituents), standard methodologies, discussions and concerns, and advises others of these issues.

What We Require

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a related advanced degree.
  • Ten years+ of progressively responsible management experience that includes the administration of large and complex organizations, institutional leadership and resource development.
  • Experience in public higher education.
  • Direct knowledge and experience in budgeting or finance.
  • Eight years of relevant experience in a higher education management/leadership role, in particular leading a multi-staff office.

  • Final candidate must successfully pass a criminal, financial and motor vehicle background check.
