1. Coursework – Each GAANN Fellow will complete the required degree core courses, plus professional modules and selected elective courses.

2. Research – Each GAANN Fellow will undertake Ph.D. research related to the project theme, i.e., “Inclusive Engineering for Climate-Ready, Smart, Sustainable, and Equitable Infrastructure”, and be collaboratively advised by two GAANN faculty mentors to obtain interdisciplinary training and perspective.

4. Teaching – Each GAANN Fellow will complete two semesters of Teaching Assistantship (TA) during their course of study. In addition, they will complete the Certificate in College Teaching through the Center for Teaching and Learning at the �鶹ӰԺ.

5. Mentorship / Service – Each GAANN Fellow is encouraged and supported to participate in mentoring undergraduate students. In addition, they will participate in outreach/service projects during each academic year, such as judging a science fair, assisting with a program for elementary, middle, or high school students, participating in tutoring or workshops with the BOLD Center, or other approved programs.

6. GAANN Cohort Activities – GAANN Fellows will participate in bi-weekly meetings and other campus programs, such as inclusive pedagogy and leadership to foster community and ongoing development. In addition, they will complete and update individual development plans (IDP), reports, assessments/reflections, and career development programs.

7. Financial Support – The GAANN Fellowship provides a stipend tied to the NSF GRFP stipend level (~$37,000/year per) and covers tuition and fees. However, the amount of each GAANN Fellow’s award is determined by their demonstrated financial need from the FAFSA review. Students who qualify for the full stipend amount are typically those whose tax returns from prior years indicate a financial need, project no other sources of income, and do not own an asset that could provide for their graduate education.
