Graduate Certificate
To enhance the graduate school training for enrolled graduate students at the 麻豆影院, the Department of Ethnic Studies (DES) offers a Graduate Certificate in Critical Ethnic Studies (GCCES). The purpose of the certificate is to provide specialized training in Africana studies, Chicanx/Latinx studies, decolonial feminist studies, critical ethnic studies, race and sexuality studies, and transnational/hemispheric ethnic studies to students pursuing degrees in various disciplines on campus.
Description of Curriculum
The GCCES is an interdisciplinary course of study designed to complement the MA or PhD curriculum required by the student鈥檚 home department. A total of twelve credit hours of graduate level coursework is required for the GCCES. Nine credit hours must be taught by core faculty in the Department of Ethnic Studies. ETHN 6000: Foundations in Critical Ethnic Studies is a required course for the GCCES.
Application Process
Students must submit an unofficial transcript and a two-page statement of purpose describing how their graduate interests will be enhanced by our course offerings and mentoring (please state in the statement of purpose which classes you have taken in DES). To participate in the Ethnic Studies Certificate program, applicants must sustain good academic standing with their home unit within the Graduate College. Their home unit must also indicate its support for the student enrolling in the Certificate program. Certificate program students must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.3.
