Amy is the Nicholas R. and Nancy D. Petry Professor in Construction Engineering and Management in the Department of Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering. Her teaching and research cover construction engineering and management, disaster risk reduction, resiliency, and recovery, sustainable infrastructure service delivery, and knowledge mobilization. She has been recognized with multiple awards including the American Society of Civil Engineers鈥� Daniel W. Halpin Award for Scholarship in Construction. Amy has served as the associate director of the Mortenson Center for Global Engineering and Resilience for the past nine years.

As a professor in the Paul M. Rady Department of Mechanical Engineering, Alaa鈥檚 research focuses on understanding how the brain controls movement. She is the recipient of an NSF CAREER Award and a DARPA Young Faculty Award presented to 鈥渞ising research stars in junior faculty positions at U.S. academic institutions.鈥� Alaa has most recently been serving as the associate director for the Biomedical Engineering Program and has also served on the campus Academic Review and Planning Advisory Committee.

Alaa takes the reins from Charles Musgrave, who is departing CU 麻豆影院 for a new role as dean of the John and Marcia Price College of Engineering at the University of Utah. Thank you for all of your contributions to the college 鈥� we wish you all the best in your new role!聽

Wil is the Charles Victor Schelke Endowed Professor in the Department of Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering. He leads the Living Materials Lab, which explores innovative bio-inspired building materials and living architecture. To date, Wil has received $14.5 million in sponsored research funding as principal investigator and $13.2 million as co-PI or senior personnel. He is the author of more than 100 technical journal papers, book chapters, and conference proceedings. A sample of his recognitions include the NSF CAREER Award, Engineering News Record Top 25 Newsmakers, and Schmidt Science Polymath Award. He is also a co-founder of three startups 鈥� Prometheus Materials, Minus Materials and Aureus Earth.

The associate dean for innovation and entrepreneurship is a new role that will be supported by gift funds over the next four years. We look forward to having Wil define this position and lead our growth in translational research across the college.

Ryan is the James and Catherine Patten Endowed Professor of Chemical and Biological Engineering. He has been a member of the CU 麻豆影院 faculty since 2020, and previously served as the department鈥檚 faculty associate chair. Ryan is a leading researcher of mechanical instabilities of soft materials, active polymer materials and interfaces and the self-assembly of polymer and particle-based nanostructures. He recently won the ChBE Department Service Award and is a Fellow of the American Physical Society.

We鈥檇 like to extend our appreciation to Will Medlin, who is stepping down from the chair role. Thank you for your service to the department and college!聽

Mike is a professor in the Rady Department of Mechanical Engineering. He also has longtime affiliations with the Environmental Engineering Program and Mortenson Center in Global Engineering and Resilience. Mike鈥檚 research interests focus on human and environmental health through improving air quality. He previously served as the ME department chair from 2015 to 2022. He has been recognized by the department with its Outstanding Undergraduate Educator (2007 and 2012), Service (2009) and Research awards (2010). He has most recently been recognized with the ME Faculty Distinguished Achievement Award (2022).

Thank you to Dan Schwartz for serving as interim director of environmental engineering. We appreciate all of the leadership you鈥檝e provided for the program over the past 17 months.聽

Angie is stepping into a new role as director of the Engineering Education Program, which is launching as the college鈥檚 seventh interdisciplinary, degree-granting program. The program currently offers a PhD that seeks to improve the education of engineers through research, project-based learning paradigms, and integrated design principles. Angie is a professor of civil engineering and integrated design engineering.聽

Thank you to Angie for all that you鈥檝e done to help build the Integrated Design Engineering Program, and we look forward to what you will accomplish with engineering education!聽

As Angie transitions to her new role, Mindy will step in as director of the Integrated Design Engineering Program. Mindy has been a teaching professor in the program since 2014 and is also the faculty director of the Lattice Scholars Program. She previously served as associate director of undergraduate education for IDE and spent several years as director of K-12 engineering education in the BOLD Center.
