Celebrate International Women's Day with alumni, students, faculty and prospective students as we come together on March 8 to discuss ways to support each other, make meaningful connections, and hear from a who have excelled through different stages in their careers. .
Announcing our 2023 Alumni Award winners
The Distinguished Engineering Alumni Award (DEAA) honors graduates and friends who have distinguished themselves through outstanding personal qualities, knowledge, and significant contributions to their fields. This year鈥檚 winners are:
- Kate Bergeron (惭惭别肠丑贰苍驳谤鈥95)
- Bhavna Chhabra&苍产蝉辫;(颁辞尘辫厂肠颈鈥95)
- Herb Vogel (惭别肠丑贰苍驳谤鈥82)
The Recent Alumni Award (RAA) recognizes one outstanding alum each year for professional achievements, continued service to the college or university, and admirable personal characteristics within 10 years of graduation from the college. Congratulations to this year鈥檚 winner, Justin Whiteley (MMechEngr鈥14, PhD鈥16).
The Alumni Engagement Medal (AEM) allows academic degree programs and the BOLD Center to recognize highly engaged alumni who impact their areas through volunteerism and philanthropic support. Check out the list of this year鈥檚 medal winners.
Wednesday, March 1. 4:30-6 p.m., Fiske Planetarium
Faculty from all colleges are invited to join Faculty Affairs Fellow Alaa Ahmed and others from across campus for light appetizers, a cash bar and conversation in the Fiske Space Gallery. To cap off the night, Fiske Director John Keller will lead an immersive experience within the 8K-x-8K full dome theater.
The symposium provides a platform for sharing and expanding collective knowledge in the field of water, sanitation and hygiene in both domestic and international contexts. The symposium brings together leaders and WASH practitioners in social enterprises, the private sector, NGOs, academia, and development agencies.
Tuesday, March 14. 2-3 p.m., Clark Conference Room (ECAD 109)
Bring a sweet or savory pie to share for this informal social event! All types of pie are welcome 鈥 fruit, pizza, pot 鈥 you name it. Coffee will be provided.
Faculty Awards
- Sarah Calve and Virginia Ferguson of Rady Mechanical Engineering received a five-year National Institute of Arthritis & Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases award for an anticipated amount of $1.65 million for 鈥淓xtracellular Integration of a Cohesive Myotendinous Junction.鈥
- Dejan Filipovic of electrical, computer and energy engineering received a three-year Office of Naval Research award for an anticipated amount of $1.18 million for 鈥淲ideband Electricity Small Antennas and Array Derivatives Thereof at HF and Beyond.鈥
- Alan Weimer of chemical and biological engineering received a three-year Chevron USA Inc. award for $904,500 for 鈥淒evelopment of Si Encapsulated Phase Change Material for High Temperature Thermal Storage.鈥
