More than 1,000 new undergraduate students will be arrivingÌýsoon! We need help from faculty and staff to welcome them during the college's two-day Engineering Launch event on Aug. 20-21.Ìý

We have various volunteer shifts availableÌýstarting on Aug. 12. Each volunteer gets a T-shirt and other giveaways, and some volunteer shifts also include a meal.Ìý

Engineering Launch Goals

  • Create excitement and a welcoming environment for our new students
  • Build community among new undergraduate students, engaging with peers who have different backgrounds
  • Engage with an upper level undergraduate student as a guide and mentor
  • Encourage exploration in regards to major, minors, and other ways to have a breadth of experience while at CU
  • Establish the relationships between each department and their students

Engineering Launch Sessions

College Welcome (Aug. 20, 10:15-11:15 a.m.)

The 2019 incoming class forms the letters CU on Norlin Quad, as seen from aboveActing Dean Keith Molenaar will welcome the new students in Macky Auditorium. Faculty and staffÌýare also welcome to attend!Ìý

After the welcome, new students will funnel out to Norlin Quad, where you can watch us take a class photo with a drone. Check out the first class photo from fall 2019 at right.

Special-Interest Sessions

Special-interest sessions allow our students to learn more about groups and events that interest them. These sessions are hosted by various partners within our college and on campus. Included within the special interest options, students may also choose to attend academic success sessions. Academic success sessions will focus on success in calculus, metacognition (increasing concept mastery skills), test preparationÌýand time management.

Meet Your Major (Aug. 21, 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.)

Each department will have time with their new undergraduates to introduce them to their unit and degree programs.ÌýYour department may schedule additional time with your students such as lunchÌýor afternoon activities.

Peer Mentoring

There are various times for new students to interact with peer mentors during Engineering Launch. Peer mentors are upper-level undergraduate students who volunteer their time to participate in events such as Engineering Launch. On the first day of Launch, students will be able to have lunch in the dining halls with a peer mentor. Throughout the two days, students may choose to interact with peer mentors in other ways, which we have built in as optional but not required.

Second-Year Experience

As you know, for students who started college in fall 2020, things were weird. We did not have much of anything in-person for welcome events. Therefore, the campus and our college have been working on a redo for them. The campus has a number of second-year experience events geared for students who started in the last academic year, who may have hardly met their peers. These events are not required, but highly encouraged for these students to attend. Learn more on the New Student and Family Programs website.Ìý
