CEAS Peer Coach
Have you ever wanted to be a mentor or peer advisor to your fellow CU Engineering students? Do you find yourself often giving advice to others or acting as a resource to other CU Engineering students? The Peer Coach position is great for you! Peer Coaches are undergraduate students at CU, in the College of Engineering & Applied Science (CEAS), who assist with academic success initiatives, programs, and support.
Specifically, Peer Coaches will work with the Academic Success staffÌýwithin these areas of responsibility:
- Academic Success Workshops (approximately 1-5 hours per week) – These workshops have already been designed and are currently led by current peer academic coaches. The workshops focus on topics such as efficient study techniques, time management, resiliency, etc. The Peer Coach will be trained on the topics and assist in leading them. In addition, the Peer Coach will work with professional staff to develop new, relevant and timely workshops or events to support academic success for CEAS undergraduate students.
- Fresh Start Class (approximately 2-6 hours per week)Ìý– Serve in a Teaching Assistant and Peer Mentor role in the Fresh Start class for CEAS students. Collaborate with the course instructor to update and refine lesson plans for this course. Serve as a peer resource and mentor for students in the program.
- Participate in other academic programs developed by the academic success team. This could include but not limited to, assisting and faciliation for orientations, tabling events, facilitating requested workshops from departments/clubs, etc.
- Academic Success Innovation (included within and outside of the areas above) – Provide insight and ideas to improve academic success outreach, programs, and more, for undergraduate students in CEAS. This will involve being part of brainstorming sessions, focus groups, getting feedback from other students, talking with faculty, etc.
Minimum Qualifications:
- At the start of the position (not the time of application), the candidate must have completed two full-time semesters within CEAS.
- GPA Requirements:
- 2.0 or higher semester GPA in current semester OR
- YourÌýsemester GPA must increase by at least 0.50 points from the previous completed academic term. For example, if your SpringÌýsemester GPA was 1.5, you must have a FallÌýsemester GPA of at least 2.0Ìýto be eligible.
- 2.0 or higher semester GPA in current semester OR
- Have a desire to mentor and support other students
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to empathize and relate to other students
- Strongly encouraged to be available for full day trainings (training dates will be announced depending on hiring date).
- Must have availability to co-facilitate one section of the Fresh Start class. The options will be announced at the time of hiring.
- Peer Coach staff meeting – You will meet with the team of Peer Coaches and your supervisor once a week for 1.5 hours, and you will be compensated for this time.
- Work with your supervisor to create your weekly schedule for the semester. You should have 3-8 hours available for this job every week. Some weeks there will be more hours than this, and you will be scheduled based on your availability for those opportunities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Public speaking experience, or desire to learn
- Peer Mentor, coaching, teaching, or tutoring experience
Compensation:
- Peer Coaches are paid hourly. The number of hours per week can range from 2 – 10, however most weeks will not exceed 5-7 hours.
- The hourly rate for Peer Coaches will be determined based on experience, with a starting range from $15-17Ìýper hour, dependent on experience.
- Open to non-work study students and work study students.
How to Apply and Timeline

- Applications will be reviewed as they are completed and interviews will be scheduled between February 7th-February 25th.
- Job offers will be made the first week in March and, if hired, you would start in mid-March.Ìý
