New $7 million initiative seeks to spark curiosity in K-12 science students

Feb. 1, 2021

Led by School of Education Professor William Penuel, the project team will develop three full-year courses in high school biology, chemistry and physics, with Earth and space sciences integrated throughout. The team hopes that the effort will help to ensure that all students, and especially those from groups traditionally underrepresented in the sciences, can have access to a high-quality science education.

CU Teach students find community and purpose working in virtual classrooms

With many K-12 schools switched to remote or hybrid learning settings due to the COVID-19 pandemic, CU Teach partner schools and teachers have been particularly grateful to have support from CU 麻豆影院 students. The one-credit Step 1 (EDUC 2020) and Step 2 (EDUC 2030) education courses invite CU 麻豆影院 STEM majors to explore teaching and work with elementary classrooms.

In 鈥淧ublic Influence Rankings鈥 released Jan. 6, two members of the CU 麻豆影院 School of Education faculty were recognized as among the nation鈥檚 top 200 researchers whose scholarship bridges academic and public audiences. Professors Kevin Welner and Bill Penuel were listed among national Edu-Scholar Public Influence Rankings.

William Penuel named Distinguished Professor, the highest honor for faculty

William Penuel has been named Distinguished Professor, which recognizes faculty members鈥 outstanding contributions to their academic disciplines and is the highest honor for faculty bestowed by the University of Colorado. Penuel is an influential scholar in the learning sciences, whose work is reimagining educational research and curricula design.
