Data Science Accelerated Master's

Master of Science in Data Science at CU Â鶹ӰԺ

Students will develop knowledge and skills in interdisciplinary data science competencies including:

  • Statistical analysis
  • Data structures and algorithms
  • Data mining
  • Machine learning
  • Big data architecture
  • Data visualization

Learn the skillsÌýnecessary to fuel creative problem-solving andÌýcommunicate effectively across diverse organizations.

  • You may take up toÌýtwelveÌýcredit hoursÌýof ourÌý30-credit MSÌýin Data Science, whileÌýyou pursue your bachelor's degree in Computer Science.
  • Six credit hoursÌýcan be simultaneously applied toward your bachelor'sÌýand graduate degree requirements. For your simultaneously applied credits, you can choose from these courses:
    • Any 5000-level courses open to MS in CS students can be simultaneously applied towards the six credit hours:
      • STAT 5000: Statistical Methods and Applications 1 (3)
      • STAT 5010: Statistical Methods and Applications 2 (3)
      • CSCI 5502: Data Mining (3)
      • CSCI 5622: Machine Learning (3)

BA/BS student eligibility

  • Complete all prerequisite courses with a minimum grade of B.
  • You must have at least a 3.25 cumulative GPA.
    • If you do not meet the cumulative GPA or prerequisite courses minimum grade of BÌýcriteria, you must have one letter of reference from a faculty member or your undergraduate academic advisor outlining why you should be considered. Your letter-writer should send their letter directly toÌýdatascience@colorado.edu.
  • ​ÌýYou must have at least junior class standing.
  • ±«²Ô»å±ð°ù²µ°ù²¹»å³Ü²¹³Ù±ð²õÌýare not allowed toÌýapplyÌýto be admitted to a CS-related BAM in the term they are graduating from their undergraduate degree.Ìý
    • An undergraduate student receives the best value from a BAM program in both time and money if they are able to take all four graduate classes that the BAM program allows before they graduate with their undergraduate degree.​

Application Process for BA/BS students

  1. Check your eligibility, including the necessary prerequisite courses. If you have questions on eligibility, please contact your academic advisor.
  2. Students should complete the following steps by October 15 for spring start and February 28 for fall start.

Post-bacc student Eligibility

  • You must have at least a 3.25Ìýcumulative GPA.
  • One Letter of Reference is required if the student does not have at least a 3.25 cumulative GPA or if their cumulative GPA is between 3.0 and 3.25.
