For four-and-a-half decades CEO and chairman听Richard Weingardt听(CivEngr鈥�60, MS鈥�64, HonDocSci鈥�11) of Richard Weingardt Consultants has worked at the forefront of innovative, cost-effective structural engineering and civil engineering projects. Some of these projects include CU-麻豆影院鈥檚 Discovery Learning Center and Integrated Teaching and Learning Laboratories and Denver International Airport. Richard lives in Denver.

Early this year听Frank Reno鈥檚 (Engl鈥�60, MA鈥�67) third book was published.听Arthurian Figures of History and Legend: A Biographical Dictionary(McFarland) covers more than 400 legendary and historic people from the Arthurian era. Frank lives in Lafayette, Colo.

While studying abroad at the University of Fribourg, Switzerland, and the University of Oslo, Norway in 1969-60, Romayne Troost Kazmer (DistSt) wrote letters to her family about her travels. Now, she has compiled those letters into a memoir titled Letters That Moved My Father.听

After retiring as president of Western Nevada College in 1996, Anthony Calabro (SocSci) served as a regents professor in the College of Education at the University of Nevada, Reno. He was granted emeritus status in 2005.

The International Clarinet Association bestowed Alan Stanek (MusEdu) with honorary membership for his lifetime achievements in performance, teaching and professional service. Alan recently created the Valentine Henrich Memorial Clarinet Scholarship Fund, named for his instructor at CU from 1957 to 1961.

The day听after graduating from CU,听闯辞丑苍听颁补惫补苍补驳丑 (惭驳尘迟)听尘补谤谤颈别诲听Gae Mayer听Cavanagh听(Edu鈥�60),听and they built a life in听Jacksonville, Fla. John听worked and owned听businesses in several听industries, including cigars, boxes, insurance,听health care, cars and听vitamins. Gae taught听elementary school.听Now retired, John has听spent the last 14 years听working with Kairos听Prison Ministry in Union听County, Fla., sharing his听Christian religion with听inmates. John writes,听鈥淭his is more rewarding听work than anything I did听in the past.鈥�

William M. Sprecher (IntlAf) writes that attending CU was a chance decision for him, and a great one. 鈥淭hree universities accepted my applications,鈥� he wrote. 鈥淓ventually, I narrowed the schools to the University of Washington (Seattle) and CU. A 鈥榝lip of the coin鈥� on my bunk bed in my army barracks turned out to be CU. It was a great and lasting choice.鈥� After enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1954 following high school in Newark, Del., William was transferred to Texas and then Missouri, before being sent to Saint-Nazaire, France, as a private first class. He eventually rose to the rank of sergeant.

John Herzog听(Advert) retired听from his third state听board, the Colorado听Dental Board, Jan. 1.听He was appointed by听Gov. John Hickenlooper.听He previously served听on the Colorado听Securities Board and听the Colorado Utility听Consumer鈥檚 Board. At听CU, he served on the听Alumni Association鈥檚听board twice and is a听CU Advocate. He lives听with his wife,听Leslie听(Engl鈥�62), in Colorado听Springs. His daughter听Dana Jussaume听(Hist鈥�94) and son-in-law听Dave Eck听(PolSci鈥�84)听attended CU, and his听granddaughter听Emily听Eck听(Mus鈥�20) attends听the university now.听

The 鈥淭hen鈥� photo from the summer issue of the Coloradan sparked memories for William Sprecher (IntlAf). While stationed in France with the U.S. Army during the 1950s, Bill realized that to develop and grow as an individual, a college degree was important. Unsure which college he should attend, he decided on CU 麻豆影院 after a coin toss in his barracks bunk bed. Later he was offered a job by the U.S. Department of Labor in Washington, D.C. Bill, who retired from the federal government 15 years ago, lives in Leesburg, Va.

Steven Rendall (Phil) writes that 鈥渞etirement鈥� in France has been going well 鈥� he鈥檚 received three major translation prizes and is working on his 82nd book translation. After departing the University of Oregon in 1997, having taught French and comparative literature for 30 years, he moved to France with his wife and then 4-year-old听daughter. Steven has since pursued a second career as a French-to-German translator.

Patricia 鈥淧atty鈥� Watters (A&S) has published The Biodome Garden Book, which describes how to build a self-contained passive solar greenhouse. Her design, featured in Brewer Park in Ottawa, Canada, is studied by four universities in the area. Patty also has written 23 romance novels and a memoir, Around the Belt, chronicling her escapades growing up in New Orleans in the 1950s. She lives in Newberg, Ore., and has been receiving the Coloradan for 55 years.

Martha 鈥淢arty鈥� Hudson Grossman (Hist) has published a memoir, Coming of Age: Come Rain or Come Shine. She read from the book at Shine Restaurant and Gathering Place in 麻豆影院 earlier this year. For more information on Martha and her story, visit marthagrossman.com.

This spring,听Ruth Stewart听(Nurs; MS鈥�65) was recognized by the Texas Nurses Association at a legacy banquet for her lasting impact in nursing practice. She is a clinical associate professor and historian in the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, where she has worked since 1969. She is very active in her community, especially in supporting women鈥檚 rights and health. She lives in San Antonio, Texas.

The town of Riverside, Calif., is familiar with听Geraldine Flood Bowden听(Bus; MA鈥�62) and her service to the community. On and off since the 1960s she has served on the board of the Riverside County Philharmonic. She also serves on the boards of the Riverside Dickens Festival and Affiliates of UC Riverside and volunteers with numerous other local organizations. Her peers recognized her hard work during a city council meeting in July. She was featured in The Press-Enterprise and cited the time her grandson was asked to conduct the national anthem before a philharmonic concert as an especially fond memory.

Former Alumni Association board member听John Herzog听(Jour鈥�61) and his wife,听Leslie Keck Herzog听(Engl鈥�62), celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last September. They met at CU. In May John was reappointed to the State Board of Dental Examiners by Gov. John Hickenlooper. He also has served on the Colorado Securities Board and the Colorado Utility Consumers鈥� Board.

There are few things in the tech world that currently create as much buzz as 3D printing.听Charles 鈥淐huck鈥� Hull听(Engr鈥�61) is the name behind it all. He invented stereolithography, better known as 3D printing. For that, he was inducted to the National Inventors Hall of Fame in May. Chuck lives in Canyon Country, Calif.

Co-author of听Big Man on Campus: A University President Speaks Out On Higher Education,听Gerald Kauvar听(A&S鈥�61, MA鈥�62) organizes, classifies and explains patterns of leadership failures and offers key advice on how institutions and their leaders can avoid them. Gerald is a research professor of public policy and public administration and special assistant to the president emeritus at George Washington University. He lives in Washington, D.C.

On July 13听Marsha Herrmann听(A&S鈥�61) and her husband celebrated their 50th anniversary. The couple met at the University Lutheran Chapel on the CU-麻豆影院 campus. After graduation Marsha was a fifth-grade teacher at what is now Community Montessori School on Table Mesa in 麻豆影院. The couple lived in Arizona and California before returning to Colorado in 1965 where Marsha worked as a substitute teacher in the 麻豆影院 Valley School District and in the registrar鈥檚 office at CU. She is a charter member of the 麻豆影院 Guild for Children鈥檚 Hospital and enjoys photography and flower arranging. The couple lives in Superior, Colo.

New York City resident听Gerald Kauvar听(A&S鈥�61, MA鈥�62) is co-author of the book听Presidencies Derailed: Why University Leaders Fail and How to Prevent It.听He is a public policy and public administration research professor and special assistant to the president emeritus at George Washington University.
