For four-and-a-half decades CEO and chairman听Richard Weingardt听(CivEngr鈥60, MS鈥64, HonDocSci鈥11) of Richard Weingardt Consultants has worked at the forefront of innovative, cost-effective structural engineering and civil engineering projects. Some of these projects include CU-麻豆影院鈥檚 Discovery Learning Center and Integrated Teaching and Learning Laboratories and Denver International Airport. Richard lives in Denver.

Astronomy lover听Robert Bruner听(PolSci鈥60, MBA鈥63) writes he prepared the exhibit, 鈥淟ife on Mars in a Box鈥 for the Denver Museum of Nature and Science and educated the public about the Mars Curiosity Rover. An amateur scientist, Robert has studied Mars for 60 years, given more than 230 astronomy talks and has volunteered at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science for 24 years.

Three years ago听Ann Kern Ehrenclou听(Mus鈥60) retired as music coordinator for the Palos Verdes Peninsula Schools in California. She continues to be involved in many musical activities including presenting teacher workshops in elementary music education, playing flute/harpsichord or piano duos, performing in a five-member musical theater group to raise money for charity and serving as president of the Peninsula Committee for the Los Angeles Philharmonic. She writes that the outstanding music education she received at CU has been the foundation of all her music endeavors.

Her book,Memoirs of the Soul: A Writing Guide,听has received a Reviewers鈥 Choice Award and made the list of 鈥淭op Ten Reads.鈥 Nan lives in Eugene, Ore.

Structural engineer听Rich Weingardt听(CivEngr鈥60, MS鈥64, HonDocSci鈥11) was quoted in听TheNew York Times Magazine听on April 7 in the 鈥淲ho Made That?鈥 article on the Ferris wheel. George Ferris 鈥減robably had more to do with the acceptance of structural steel than anybody alive at his time,鈥 Rich told Pagan Kennedy who wrote the article.听Rich wrote a biography on Ferris titled听Circles in the Sky, The Life and Times of George Ferris.听He lives in Denver.

With a career in international development work听Craig Hafner听(A&S鈥60, MGeog鈥74) began as a Peace Corps volunteer in the first group of teachers going to Tanganyika, now Tanzania, in 1963. Afterwards he worked in Kenya with a medical missions group as a volunteer bush pilot. In 1975 Craig served as the associate Peace Corps director of rural development in Sierra Leone. Craig and his wife live in 麻豆影院 and periodically serve on the board of the nonprofit Friends of Tanzania, which his wife helped start.

Reader Views gave it first place in the literary awards writing/publication category, and MyShelf.com named her book a top 10 read. The passing of听George Foster鈥檚 (Chem) wife,听Mary Wiley Foster听(A&S鈥58), motivated George to get in shape. In June he swam in the Montana Senior Olympics, setting state records for the men鈥檚 75-79 age group in the 50 Fly, 200 Freestyle and 500 Freestyle. He writes that his 鈥淟iving Legend鈥 plaque has been hanging on his wall since CU awarded it in 2010. He lives in Helena, Mt.

Former Miss America听Marilyn Van Derbur听(Engl) gave a keynote听address in April at Utah听Valley University, part of听an event hosted by 鈥淭he听Clothesline Project: Silent听Voices,鈥 a program for national violence awareness听and prevention. Crowned听Miss America in 1958, two听years before graduating听Phi Beta Kappa, Marilyn听has been a motivational听speaker focused on听sexual abuse prevention听and recovery. She is听the author of a memoir听about recovering from听sexual abuse, Miss听America By Day, and is听the founder of the Survivor United Network.

William J. Veigele (PhDPhys) celebrated his 91st birthday in June and is preparing for the release of his 15th book. He served three years of active duty in WWII, taught as a professor at several universities and held positions in both environmental work and nuclear research.听William lives in Santa Barbara, Calif.

On June 1 Linda Rowland Christenson (Span) and Eric Christenson (Edu, Engl) participated in a seminar sponsored by the U.S. Embassy in Paris for the 70th anniversary of the Marshall Plan. The venue was the H么tel de Talleyrand, where the Louisiana Purchase had been negotiated and which housed the plan鈥檚 U.S. headquarters in Europe. Eric and Linda, co-executive producers of a 1997 PBS documentary on the Marshall Plan, were writers and researchers for occasional projects at the Talleyrand from 2003 to 2010. The couple lives near their two children in Southern Pines, N.C.

A month听after graduating from CU,听Stan听Bolsenga听(Geol) began听a 30-year career as a听research glaciologist听studying ice and snow听in North American听territories. 鈥淚 had a听great career, including publishing over 80听scientific papers and听authoring or coauthoring four books, none听of which would have听been possible without听my CU background,鈥澨齢e wrote. He lives in听the Upper Peninsula听of Michigan, where he听worked for the Cold听Regions Research &听Engineering Laboratory,听Great Lakes Research听Center and the Great听Lakes Environmental听Research Laboratory.听He writes that he鈥檚 lost听track of his former CU听housemates and friends听and would love to hear听from them.

Former CU swimmer听George Foster (Chem)听competed at the 2019听National Senior Games,听held in June in Albuquerque, N.M. George听took first place in the听200-yard individual听medley and the 500-yard听freestyle in the 80 to 84听age group. The Broomfield, Colo., resident听writes that his wife,听Mary Wiley Foster (A&S鈥58), died in 2014,听and that he meets with听other former CU athletes听weekly for coffee. A听biochemistry doctorate,听George worked in the听pharmaceutical industry听for 30 years.

Arthur White (MBaSci;听PhDEdu鈥69) was born in听麻豆影院 and grew up on听a farm east of the Valmont power plant. In the听mid-1950s, he worked听as a wrangler for Columbine Lodge 鈥 near听the trail leading up to听Longs Peak 鈥 packing听supplies by horseback听for the CU Hiking Club听before they climbed听Longs Peak. While working on his doctorate, he听was coach of the CU听men鈥檚 gymnastics team,听leading it to a Big Eight听Conference title. Arthur听taught at Ohio State听University for 44 years听before retiring.
