The Hopi Tribe Economic Development Corporation in Flagstaff, Ariz., appointed聽Charles Thompson Sr.聽(Mktg) as its CEO. The corporation operates seven businesses throughout Northern Arizona. Charles spent 35 years in the luxury consumer products industry in China. He lives with his wife,聽Judy Brett Thompson聽(Mktg鈥65), in Mesa, Ariz. In April they celebrated their 50th anniversary. They have three children, all of whom are CU graduates:聽Charles Thompson Jr.听(叠耻蝉鈥91),听Stacey Thompson Rogers聽(Acct鈥93) and聽Kim Thompson Welk聽(Mktg鈥96). They also have seven grandchildren.

Political scientist聽Karen M. Paget聽(PolSci; MA鈥71; PhD鈥75) published Patriotic Betrayal: The Inside Story of the CIA鈥檚 Secret Campaign to Enroll American Students in the Crusade Against Communism. Ramparts magazine exposed the story in 1967, but Karen shows there was a lot more to it. She is a contributing editor to The American Prospect and has written on topics ranging from gender politics to the U.S. military budget. She lives in California.

Svein Hasund聽(MechEngr) and spouse Pauline returned to 麻豆影院 County in 2000 after 33 years of living overseas, in New Jersey and in Alaska.They now live in Lafayette. Svein retired in 2009 after 42 years of working in the oil and gas industry. He was part of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline Project Team in the mid 鈥70s, and in the 鈥80s he worked on production facilities on the Alaska North Slope. In the last 14 years of his career he was a project management consultant with Exxon Mobil and its affiliates. After retiring he is staying active with volunteer activities at CU (the Alumni Association鈥檚 Board of Advisors, CU Engineering Mentor Program and Directors Club), in the community, on his HOA board and for Habitat for Humanity. In his spare time he enjoys gardening, hiking, jogging, skiing, reading and leisure traveling. Svein and Pauline have two sons, Ian (MechEngr鈥93) and聽Craig听(惭别肠丑贰苍驳谤鈥95).

J. Blaine Griffith Jr. (IntlAf) of Sewickley, Penn., was awarded the War Service Medal by the Pittsburgh chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution. He flew 299 combat missions as a captain in the U.S. Marine Corps, 138 of which were at night in Laos. He has willed his lifetime definitive collection of Japanese 鈥渦kiyo-e鈥 woodcuts to CU in memory of聽Muriel Sibell Wolle聽(MA&S鈥30), who introduced him to the art.

Michael H. Logan聽(Anth) of Knoxville, Tenn., retired in June after a 38-year career as an anthropology professor at the University of Tennessee. He is now professor emeritus. Last spring he served as curator of 鈥淏rightly Beaded: North American Glass Beadwork,鈥 his third exhibit at the university鈥檚 Frank H. McClung Museum to feature 19th-century American Indian art. His departmental colleagues created an annual graduate student teaching award in his name. He and wife聽Beth Brown Logan聽(Soc鈥68) travel widely in the U.S. and abroad. Mike鈥檚 career was sparked in the basement classrooms at Hellems at CU-麻豆影院, where he studied under Omer C. Stewart, David Breternitz and others.

It has been about a year since聽Nancy Smith Rasmussen聽(Engl鈥67) retired. Since then, she鈥檚 enjoyed the time to read and volunteer. But she also spends more time in Minneapolis at her new job 鈥 grandma to her son Ben鈥檚 two young boys, ages 2 and 4. Nancy lives in Philadelphia.

Stephen is a jazz educator at the Center for Musical Arts and a freelance musician in the Denver area. Retired, he taught students in the 麻豆影院 Valley School District beginning in 1967. Stephen was the 麻豆影院 Valley School District Jazz Educator of the Year in 1991. He lives in Erie, Colo.

For the last 54 years,聽Bill Marolt聽(Bus鈥67) has been one of the most memorable faces of U.S. skiing. The 1964 Olympian was a racer, coach, CU-麻豆影院 athletic director, chief executive of the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association and vice president of the International Ski Federation. In Sochi, Russia, venue of this year鈥檚 Winter Olympics, Bill oversaw his last Olympics before retiring. He and his wife live in Utah鈥檚 winter sports mecca, Park City but has plans to move to 麻豆影院 in early summer.

Former Alumni Association staffer and writer聽Nancy Smith Rasmussen聽(Engl鈥67) retired in May from her position as associate director of alumni relations at University of Pennsylvania law school. She looks forward to part-time and contractual work in various fields. In November she had an article published in the聽Penn Law Journal.聽Nancy lives in Philadelphia.

In January聽Gary Jackson聽(PolSci鈥67, Law鈥70) was honored with the Colorado Bar Association鈥檚 highest honor, the Award of Merit. Jackson is a founding member of the Sam Cary Bar Association, an African-American legal organization, and the Sam Cary Scholarship Endowment Fund, which provides scholarships to law students at CU and the University of Denver. He has been a partner at his firm DiManna & Jackson since 1976 and focuses on complex civil litigation and representation of legal professionals. He lives in Denver.

The book is aimed at anyone who wants to learn to write better. He also wrote the textbook聽Journalistic Writing聽(Marion Street Press). He lives with his wife of 47 years in Biglerville, Pa.

Zephyros in聽My Garden,聽an original clarinet choir聽composition by 闯辞丑苍听骋颈产蝉辞苍 (MusEdu鈥68;聽MMus鈥69) had its premiere performance in聽July at the International聽ClarinetFest in Reno,聽Nevada. With more than聽950 small ensemble聽arrangements and compositions to his credit,聽John is the composer聽and arranger in residence聽for the Zephyr Clarinet聽Choir at Portland State聽University. He聽lives in聽Vancouver, Washington,聽with his wife, 叠补谤产补谤补听骋颈产蝉辞苍 (惭耻蝉贰诲鈥70).

When Frank Webb (PolSci鈥68) was drafted to the Vietnam War in 1968, he was unable to attend his commencement ceremony. More than 50 years later, he was recognized during the Spring 2022 commencement, receiving a standing ovation from the crowd of more than 25,000 in Folsom Field. During the war, Frank worked as editor of a military newspaper in Cam Ranh Bay, Vietnam. Once he left the army, Frank worked in System Engineering at GTE and later AT&T Mobility. 鈥淢any brilliant people and great instructors at CU gave profound meaning to my experience of a college education,鈥 said Webb. 鈥淎nd I was always deeply involved in the fine thinking 鈥 and debate 鈥 of my peers. I never missed a single CU football home game at Folsom Stadium,鈥 he said. He lives near Snohomish, Washington.
