The National Academy of Music named聽Mike Barnett聽(PhDMus鈥�04) winner of the International Music Prize for Excellence in Composition for his piano concerto,聽Lucifer Rising. Barnett is serving as composer-in-residence with the Fauxharmonic Digital Orchestra in Boston. He has performed at many major venues, and in addition to composing, Mike records regularly as a heavy metal drummer.

Director of opera at the University of Alabama at Birmingham聽Kristine Hurst-Wajszczuk聽(PhDMus鈥�04) was honored by the National Opera Association for her production of Benjamin Britten鈥檚聽The Burning Fiery Furnace. It placed first nationally among other universities and colleges in the opera production competition. She lives in Fultondale, Ala.

Upon graduating聽Hannah Baynham聽(Soc鈥�04) moved to Hong Kong to teach English for several years. She is director of a Montessori school for Tibetan refugees in Dharamsala, India, where the Dalai Lama lives. She also is in the process of starting a school in a secluded settlement of Tibetan yak herders in the Gansu province of China.

Laura Englert Eccles聽(Mgmt鈥�04) found her mountain man in聽Erik Eccles聽(Fin鈥�00). The couple married in July 2010 in Lake Tahoe, Calif. Laura has a marketing job at Apple and is completing her MBA at Berkeley. Erik followed his entrepreneurial dreams and started his own technology company in 2009, which has since been acquired by Cisco. They enjoy spending their free time in Truckee, Calif.

Baby boy Caspian Julius was born on Sept. 30 to parents聽Marlon Reis聽(Engl鈥�04) and Jared Polis, a U.S. congressman. Marlon and baby C.J. will have videoconferences with Jared when he travels to Washington, according to a聽Denver Post聽article. The family lives in 麻豆影院.

Chicago resident聽Patrick Salvi聽(Mgmt鈥�04) was promoted to partner at the personal injury law firm Salvi, Schostok & Pritchard. He also was named to Law Bulletin Publishing Company鈥檚 2011 鈥�40 under Forty鈥� attorney list, which recognizes Illinois鈥� top up-and-coming lawyers.

As owner of the sports event production company Gravity Play Sports,聽Jason Newcomer聽(MBA鈥�04) and his wife put on several adventure races a year in Colorado and Utah designed to challenge participants to try something new and to test their abilities. President of Giclee Print Net聽Kevin Reilly聽(MBA鈥�04) writes he is looking to be involved in the Colorado art and photography community. Last spring聽Christopher Slater聽(EPOBio, Hist鈥�04) graduated from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. In July, he entered an internal medicine residency at Exempla St. Joseph Hospital in Denver. He lives with his wife聽Meagan Firth聽(MSpLangHearSci鈥�09) and their son.

Aba Arthur (Thtr鈥�05) plays Abena in the new musical adaptation of Alice Walker鈥檚 famed Pulitzer-winning novel, The Color Purple. Arthur received personal coaching from Oprah Winfrey while working on set. Arthur is based in Los Angeles and Atlanta, and serves on the Dean鈥檚 Advisory Council for CU鈥檚 College of Arts and Sciences.

Darren Mueller (Mus鈥�05) has just published his book At the Vanguard of Vinyl: A Cultural History of the Long-Playing Record in Jazz. Mueller鈥檚 work examines how musicians such as Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis, Duke Ellington and Charles Mingus leveraged the jazz industry鈥檚 adoption of the long-playing record (LP) to redefine the uneven power relations of the heavily segregated music business.

Andrew Geller聽(Psych鈥�05) and聽Vincent Mangiere (Fin鈥�13)聽met in 2020 and were聽engaged in November聽2022. Andrew has had聽a successful career in聽dentistry and Vincent in聽finance. The couple plans聽to wed in Aspen in March聽2024. They live in the聽West Village of New York.聽

Ari Gerzon-Kessler聽(MEdu鈥�05) published聽On the Same Team:聽Bringing Educators聽and Underrepresented聽Families Together. Denver attorney Anna-Liisa Mullis (MediaSt鈥� 05; Law鈥�11) was elected chair of Ray of Hope Cancer Foundation鈥檚 board of directors, a nonprofit organization that provides financial聽 assistance to the urgent needs of Coloradans with cancer.

In April, Erich Schubert (Jour鈥�05; MA鈥�08) was named vice president of communications and content for the Denver Broncos. Entering his 16th season with the Broncos, Erich works closely with the club鈥檚 chief communications officer and chief marketing officer. In addition to his involvement with the team鈥檚 day-to-day football, corporate and internal communications plans, Erich oversees the content department for the Broncos, which in 2022 became the first NFL franchise to win a Webby Award, often regarded as the internet鈥檚 highest honor. He began his career with the Broncos as a media relations intern in 2008 after working in the CU 麻豆影院 Sports Information Office with David Plati (闯辞耻谤鈥�82).

In 2021, Austin Sheldon (Kines鈥�05) completed his doctorate in clinical sciences from Andrews University. He is an associate professor of physical therapy at Bloomington, Minnesota鈥檚 Rasmussen University and program director of the postgraduate orthopedic physical therapy clinical residency at the North American Institute of Orthopedic Manual Therapy/Messiah University.

After working as a contractor for Amazon Web Services, 鈥嬧��Lauren Glendenning (Jour鈥�05) joined the company full time in January as global communications manager on the employer brand team. Prior, Lauren was director of content and communications for PowerPublish, a small content marketing startup. She also worked at Swift Communications for more than 13 years, with roles including content marketing director, editor-in-chief at The Aspen Times, editorial projects manager at Colorado Mountain News Media and senior reporter and assistant managing editor at the Vail Daily.

Katie, Courtney and their team offer workshops and resources to companies. Katie, the company鈥檚 CEO, credits her knowledge of the human experience, strong public speaking ability and understanding of team ensemble building to what she learned at CU. Courtney, the COO, credits her studies at CU for teaching her about community, critical thinking and the importance of ritual.
