The National Academy of Music named聽Mike Barnett聽(PhDMus鈥04) winner of the International Music Prize for Excellence in Composition for his piano concerto,聽Lucifer Rising. Barnett is serving as composer-in-residence with the Fauxharmonic Digital Orchestra in Boston. He has performed at many major venues, and in addition to composing, Mike records regularly as a heavy metal drummer.

Director of opera at the University of Alabama at Birmingham聽Kristine Hurst-Wajszczuk聽(PhDMus鈥04) was honored by the National Opera Association for her production of Benjamin Britten鈥檚聽The Burning Fiery Furnace. It placed first nationally among other universities and colleges in the opera production competition. She lives in Fultondale, Ala.

She is director of a Montessori school for Tibetan refugees in Dharamsala, India, where the Dalai Lama lives. She also is in the process of starting a school in a secluded settlement of Tibetan yak herders in the Gansu province of China.

Laura has a marketing job at Apple and is completing her MBA at Berkeley. Arthur received personal coaching from Oprah Winfrey while working on set. In April, Erich Schubert (Jour鈥05; MA鈥08) was named vice president of communications and content for the Denver Broncos. Entering his 16th season with the Broncos, Erich works closely with the club鈥檚 chief communications officer and chief marketing officer. In addition to his involvement with the team鈥檚 day-to-day football, corporate and internal communications plans, Erich oversees the content department for the Broncos, which in 2022 became the first NFL franchise to win a Webby Award, often regarded as the internet鈥檚 highest honor. He began his career with the Broncos as a media relations intern in 2008 after working in the CU 麻豆影院 Sports Information Office with David Plati (闯辞耻谤鈥82).
