Freelance photographer听Krisanne Johnson听(Jour鈥00) received a $30,000 Eugene Smith Grant in the category of humanistic photography for her project called 鈥淚 Love You Real Fast.鈥 Since 2006 she has been documenting the coming of age of females in Swaziland where one in two women are infected with HIV/AIDS. When not traveling to Africa, she lives in New York City.

In the midst of the Occupy Wall Street protests听Sabrina Sideris听(Engl鈥00) wrote an article published in听The Michigan Citizen听newspaper about her experience at the Re-Imagining Work Gathering in Detroit. She wrote that the highlight of the gathering was meeting hundreds of people doing community-based work. The 麻豆影院 resident is director of the community studies department at CU where she teaches students interested in social and environmental justice.

Christine Peck (EPOBio鈥01) co-founded St Hildie鈥檚, an award-winning, zero-sugar spiked tonic composed of botanical ingredients, attracting partnerships with major retailers like Whole Foods and Erewhon. The venture aligns with Peck鈥檚 passion for health and wellness. Peck credits her time at CU studying biology as the inspiration for her journey into entrepreneurship. "The choices we are making for St Hildie鈥檚 are aligned with my interests in health, the human body and environmentalism," she said.

Kevin Brinkman (CivEngr鈥01) launched OneCanopy, Colorado鈥檚 first company that aims to address the entire reforestation process from seed to project monitoring. OneCanopy, a privately funded conservation nursery located in Loveland, Colorado, will start by producing between 500,000 and 1 million trees per year for restoration efforts in the Rocky Mountain region before moving into other areas.

The American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC) accepted Alison Zinn听(IntlAf鈥01) as a fellow. Alison is a partner in the Denver office of law firm Lathrop GPM. ACTEC is a national nonprofit association of about 2,500 lawyers and law professors elected by their peers on the basis of professional reputation and experience in the preparation of wills and trusts, estate planning, probate, trust administration and related practice areas. To qualify as an ACTEC fellow, a lawyer must have at least 10 years of experience in trust and estate law.

Jared听Polis as a district court听judge for the City and听County of Denver beginning in January 2023.听Andrew has worked as a听chief deputy district attorney for the Denver District听Attorney鈥檚 Office since听2019, and has worked in听the office since 2006.

In August, Maria Coady (PhDEdu鈥01) will join the North Carolina State College of Education as the inaugural Goodnight Distinguished Professor of Educational Equity. Prior, Maria worked at the University of Florida鈥檚 College of Education as the Irving and Rose Fein Endowed Professor of Education and professor of English speakers of other languages (ESOL) and bilingual education. Maria focuses on literacy and language development for rural multilingual students.

Jamahl Mosley (Soc) was a four-year letterman at CU and is one of only 37 players in CU history to score more than 1,000 points. He was named as an assistant coach of the 2021 USA Select Team for Basketball, which trained against the USA National team as it prepared for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Jamahl has coached for the Denver Nuggets, the Cleveland Cavaliers, Dallas鈥 Summer League squad and the Dallas Mavericks.听

In 2013, Blain Howard (Phil), senior communication manager of Microsoft鈥檚 Xbox, demoed the Xbox One with Jimmy Fallon and actor Will Forte on The Tonight Show. 鈥淚t was also probably the most nervous I鈥檝e ever been. Being live on-air was intense knowing millions of people were watching,鈥 Blain told the Colorado Arts & Sciences Magazine in February. Seven years later, Blain still works in what he considers his dream job. He lives in Seattle.

Emilie Upczak (RelSt, WomSt) wrote and directed Moving Parts, a movie about human smuggling and sex trafficking set in Trinidad and Tobago, which premiered at the Denver Film Festival in 2017. It began streaming on Amazon in January. She currently teaches film at the CU 麻豆影院 Department of Cinema Studies and Moving Image Arts.

Escaping war-torn Vietnam as a child was just the beginning for Nhi Aronheim (MTeleCom). She became valedictorian of her high school, and received a bachelor鈥檚 in mathematics from Centre College in Danville, Va., before coming to 麻豆影院. Her career involved work in the telecommunications and marketing fields. Nhi has retired and is a volunteer mediator for the Colorado Better Business Bureau. She is writing a book about her harrowing journey, showing that even in the face of overwhelming odds, anything is possible. She lives in Englewood, Colo.

Austin Sol, the professional ultimate frisbee team Patrick Christmas (CompSci) founded in Texas in 2015, is now in its fourth season. Sol has a 35-player roster and is a member of the American Ultimate Disc League. Since 2001, Patrick has worked as a chief software engineer at National Instruments. He and the Sol appeared in the Coloradan鈥檚 March 2016 cover story, 鈥淯ltimate Goes Pro.鈥 This year Patrick took a spring break trip with his family to Big Bend and Carlsbad Caverns National Parks, 鈥渁 great trip that always seemed too far away when I lived in Colorado,鈥 he wrote.

Andrew Cary (Bus, Hist) writes that he is now a partner at Select Sales听Agency, which specializes in the sale of horses. He co-founded the firm听in 2009. For the past 10 years, he has sold horses that have run in the Kentucky Derby and at Royal Ascot in England. The company鈥檚 most famous horse, Tepin, won the 2015 Breeders鈥 Cup Mile. 鈥淥ne day I hope to raise thoroughbreds in Colorado, where they can receive superior high-altitude training; it works for the U.S. Olympic team!鈥 he writes.

Laboratory Conditions,听a short film听Robert Scheid听(Jour, Mgmt) edited and听starred in, made the film听festival rounds this year.听It stars Marisa Tomei听and Minnie Driver, both听Academy Award winners.听In addition to editing, Robert has been acting and听teaching editing through听institutions and one-on-one听with clients since 2002. He听lives in Los Angeles with听his wife and one-year-old听son, but writes he makes a听yearly trip out to 麻豆影院 to听recharge.听
