In March聽Loy Ledbetter聽(MechEngr鈥46) and聽Peggy Cushman Ledbetter聽(DistSt鈥47) celebrated 66 years of marriage. They live in St. Louis, Mo.

Since founding a community service program in 2005 in Tucson, Ariz., 鈥淭he Desert Readers,鈥澛Roger Allen聽(A&S鈥52) has enriched the lives of people living in assisted living residences and senior health care centers. The program entertains seniors with jokes, short stories, poetry, a sing-a-long and trivia. All of the participants are senior citizens. While at CU, Roger was the president of the Ballad Club and remembers when Burl Ives came to a club meeting after performing at Macky Auditorium. Roger still sings folk songs and ballads and takes guitar lessons. 鈥淚t is never too late to enrich our lives,鈥 he writes.

This year聽Bob Jeangerard聽(Mgmt鈥55) was inducted into the CU Athletic Hall of Fame. He averaged 12.4 points and 6.1 rebounds a game during his CU career and helped take his team to the national semifinals in 1955, when the team won a record 19 games. (CU fell to eventual champion San Francisco.) Bob was the NCAA Tournament鈥檚 Regional Most Outstanding Player.

Linn Long聽(PE鈥56, MS鈥67), who lettered four times in college as a wrestler from 1952-55, was named into the 2014 Athletic Hall of Fame. After college, he coached wrestling at CU-麻豆影院, leading the Buffs to their best finish in the NCAA Championships, a tie for fourth place in 1964. Linn also won four letters in baseball.

After reading last winter鈥檚聽Coloradan,听Jon Larsen聽(ElEngr鈥59) was struck by the photo of the University Memorial Center. He wrote that CU was a place where he 鈥渆xperienced a period of important growth and where I have really fond memories.鈥 Jon lives in Chocowinity, N.C.

Former Alumni Association board member聽John Herzog聽(Jour鈥61) and his wife,听Leslie Keck Herzog聽(Engl鈥62), celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last September. They met at CU. In May John was reappointed to the State Board of Dental Examiners by Gov. John Hickenlooper. He also has served on the Colorado Securities Board and the Colorado Utility Consumers鈥 Board.

In 1962,听Don Meyers聽(PE鈥62, MS鈥65) set an unofficial world indoor record with his successful 16鈥-1录鈥 attempt in the pole vault. He was just the fifth person ever to clear 16 feet in the pole vault. After college, Don coached for the Buffs for seven seasons. His accomplishments were recognized this year by his induction into the 2014 class of the CU Athletic Hall of Fame.

Jay Jacobs聽(A&S鈥64) published聽The Widow Wave, a nonfiction courtroom drama. The book attempts to address many questions non-lawyers have about the justice system by telling the story of a high-profile case Jay was involved in as a young trial lawyer. He thinks of his days at CU fondly, calling them 鈥渟ome of the happiest of my life.鈥 He lives in Coupeville, Wash.

Pete聽(Mktg鈥64) and聽Mary Moore听(贰诲耻鈥64)听Rabbitt聽were eagerly awaiting their 50th class reunion during Back to 麻豆影院 Homecoming Weekend. This year also marks their 50th wedding anniversary. Pete and Mary have two daughters who also graduated from CU-麻豆影院,听Kelly Rabbitt Krill聽(Comm鈥86) and聽Katie Rabbitt DeLine聽(Fin鈥87). A third generation of Rabbitts recently joined CU:聽Jeffrey DeLine聽is a freshman in the business school.

H. Robert Krear聽(PhDZool鈥65), an expert in ethology, or the behavior and ecology of animals in the field, undertook four expeditions to the far north: To central subarctic Labrador for an ecological study; and three times to Alaska, where he worked with fur seals, participated in the Murie 1956 Arctic Brooks Range Expedition (which played a major role in the creation of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge) and studied sea otters in the far western Aleutian Islands. Robert wrote a book about his experiences,听Four Seasons North: Exploration and Research in the Arctic and Subarctic.

After working as a lawyer for 40 years,听John Solheim聽(MechEngr鈥65) in 2012 accepted a position as a project manager for the demolition of 1 million square feet of buildings at the Eastman Kodak campus in Windsor, Colo. John completed the 18-month assignment and has returned to the law. He lives in Westminster and Durango, Colo., with his wife, Jeannie. John is happy to report that his two daughters and their families have moved back to Colorado.

Philip S. Hart聽(A&S鈥66) has written children鈥檚 books for more than 20 years. His next book,听Ramos and Randy, will tell the story of two children who are best friends, one Hispanic, the other African-American, growing up as neighbors in Denver. Philip lives in Los Angeles.

Rick Trujillo聽(Geol鈥70), an All-American cross country runner at CU, was inducted into the Colorado Running Hall of Fame this spring. Rick, of Ouray, Colo., was the first man to run from Ouray to Telluride over Imogene Pass.

Tim Grove聽(Geol鈥71) was elected to the American National Academy of Sciences. Tim studies the processes leading to the chemical differentiation of the Earth鈥檚 crust and mantle and the causes of the formation and evolution of the interiors of other planets. Tim has been a professor at MIT since 1979.

This year鈥檚 annual list of Washington, D.C., 鈥淪uper Lawyers鈥 included聽Sheila Hollis聽(Jour鈥71).聽 She is the chair of the Washington office of the firm Duane Morris and is a member of its executive committee. Sheila was the first woman president of the Energy Bar Association.

麻豆影院 resident聽Dick Shahan聽(Engl鈥71, MA鈥78, PhD鈥85) committed $75,000 to CU-麻豆影院, of which $50,000 has established the Dick Shahan CU-麻豆影院 Undergraduate Writing Competition. Each year $2,000 will be given to an undergraduate who writes the best prose piece about 麻豆影院. The remaining $25,000 will fund the Shahan Graduate Fellowships in the CU-麻豆影院 English department; a $1,000 research grant will be given to a graduate student annually.

NFL veteran聽Herb Orvis聽(A&S鈥72) was inducted into the CU 2014 Athletic Hall of Fame. A leader of the 1971 CU football team, Herb played a significant role in bringing the team to No. 3 in the nation, behind Nebraska and Oklahoma. He was a first-round pick of Detroit in the 1972 NFL Draft and played 10 years in the league.

William Blackwell聽(Jour鈥73) was visited by a two-year-old brown bear at his home in South Lake Tahoe, Nev. The bear was interested in his CU rain gauge, but he says he told the bear that he was still too young to enroll in the school. Apparently this bear has good taste.

NASA and the U.S. Geological Survey presented聽Dudley Chelton聽(Phys鈥74) the 2013 William T. Pecora Award for achievement in Earth remote sensing. He has been a pioneer in the oceanographic use of satellite data to explore the role of the ocean in Earth鈥檚 climate system. Dudley is a professor of earth, ocean and atmospheric sciences at Oregon State University in Corvallis, Ore.

After working for the National Institutes of Health,聽Jane Peterson聽(PhDMCDBio鈥75) was appointed CEO of the Keystone Symposia. It is a nonprofit in Silverthorne, Colo., that holds life science research conferences in the Rocky Mountains and around the world.
