        BFA External Elections Nomination Statements

        Academic Affairs Committee (AAC)

I’d like to continue my work on the Academic Affairs committee since I served last year as a faculty resource member. I enjoyed providing input on revised and new academic policy, and I would welcome the opportunity to continue contributing to the committee.

Academic Technologies & Services Committee (ATSC)

I am interested in participating in this program because I serve as the Online Liaison for the Integrative Physiology Department.Ìý I will be able to carry out my responsibilities for this position more effectively by participating in this committee.

In this time of rapid changes in technological world, I think it is important to maintain healthy communications and good information flows between the faculty and the campus organizations with which we work, such as the OIT, the Bookstore, and the Libraries. It seems that within the BFA, the ATSC is the appropriate place to make a contribution to these efforts.

Campus Operations & Resources Committee (CORC)

Climate Science & Education Committee (CSEC)

My research and teaching are centered on use of scientific measures to examine sustainable and resilient communities. I have developed a toolkit to support communities’ stormwater management retrofits using funding from state and local agencies. I have also taught (and currently re-developing ENVD 2101 course to focus on) urban and building sustainability measures. Since February of 2024, as I have been invited by the committee’s co-chairs (Carol Cogswell and David Paradis), and since then, I have been serving on the CSEC committee (as a non-voting member)

I am interested in serving on the CSEC because we are running out of time: climate change is noticeably changing modern life, for the worse—droughts, fires, floods, and other forms of extreme weather are regularly happening now. We faculty at CU Â鶹ӰԺ can address climate change education more easily than the average person, so I wish to serve on this committee and help better inform students, staff, faculty members, and the Â鶹ӰԺ community about the immediate need to address climate change.

I am interested in this committee as it aligns with my values & professional background as a librarian focused on information literacy in the sciences. I can bring expertise on how students find & interact with information & data, which is relevant to the climate change conversation.

        Faculty Affairs Committee (FAC)

I would be happy to serve on the faculty affairs committee if elected. My name is Daniel Schwartz, I am a professor in Chemical and Biological Engineering. I have a long interest in faculty issues including promoting success, faculty recognition, transparency, etc. I have served as department chair of ChBE, interim program director of Environmental Engineering, and chair of the College of Engineering first level review committee, and I think this background may provide a helpful perspective on the FAC.Ìý

        Grievance Advisory Committee (GAC)

I have been a member of the Grievance Advisory Committee since its creation in 2021. I have found this work rewarding and important. I would like to continue on the committee for one more year to continue supporting our faculty and provide greater continuity as new members join.

        Student Affairs Committee (SAC)

After being affiliated with CU for almost a decade, I am happy offer myself to fill the other units representative vacant spot on the Student Affairs Committee. I currently serve as the coordinator of learning assistants in the Communication Department and have served as a previous chapter advisor and current member of the house corporation for the Chi Omega chapter at CU, both of which have equipped me with a deep understanding of the challenges students face, as well as the importance of effective communication and advocacy.

I would like to be a part of the Student Affairs Committee because of its ability to affect change in the lives of our students and my personal interest in addressing issues of equity in the student body. Specifically, I plan to propose steps to improve access to internships for international students and am excited to learn about other opportunities to improve equity on our campus. Thank you for considering me for the Student Affairs Committee!
