Award winners will receive:
- $3000 for first place Grad and Undergrad
- $2500 for second place Grad and Undergrad
- $2000 for third听place听Grad and Undergrad
All听awards are based on artistic merit. In 2013, Gretchen King worked with the Department of Art and Art History to establish the King Competition and Exhibition, the department's first juried student exhibition. Since that time fellow alums, Meridee Moore (BA in Philosophy 鈥�80) and Kevin King (BFA in Fine Arts 鈥�81) have generously supported the annual competition and exhibition allowing the department to award undergraduate and graduate students monetary prizes and showcase their work in the Visual Arts Complex.听
An exhibition of award-winning artwork will be on display in the Visual Arts Complex, Lower Level from April 6-14, 2022
Must be in a degree-seeking program听in the Department of Art and Art History (BA, BFA, MA, MFA) and enrolled in an ARTS (art听practices) class or classes听this school year (fall 2020/spring 2021)
The 2022 King Award Jurors:
Miranda Lash听is听the听Ellen Bruss Senior Curator听at the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver.听Lash has organized a wide range of exhibitions including听Jason Moran: Bathing the Room with Blues; Keltie Ferris: *O*P*E*N*; BRUCE CONNER: FOREVER AND EVER听(co-curated with Dean Otto); the traveling retrospective听Mel Chin: Rematch; Camille Henrot: Cities of Ys; Rashaad Newsome: King of Arms;听补苍诲听Swoon: Thalassa.听In 2017 Lash and Trevor Schoonmaker co-organized the acclaimed exhibition听Southern Accent: Seeking the American South in Contemporary听 Art. From 2008 to 2014 Lash was the founding curator of modern and contemporary art at the New Orleans Museum of Art. Many of her projects seek to embrace regional complexity with a vibrant range of public programs and thoughtful intersections with local communities.
Lash currently serves as Vice President on the board of the Joan Mitchell Foundation. She has been a Clark Fellow at the Clark Art Institute, a panelist for the National Endowment for the Arts, and a member of the artistic director鈥檚 council for the international triennial Prospect New Orleans. She holds a BA with honors from Harvard University in the History of Art and Architecture and an MA from Williams College.
厂颈尘辞苍别听碍谤耻驳听has been a curator at the Aspen Art Museum since 2018. Most recently, she was part of the curatorial team on the major museum-wide exhibition听Andy Warhol: Lifetimes. Prior to joining the AAM she worked at the California African American Museum in Los Angeles and has held numerous positions at museums including the New Museum, the Whitney, and SFMOMA, among other institutions. Her writing has appeared in Artforum, Frieze, Art in America, and many other publications.

Bachelor of Fine Arts Program

The Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree program offers advanced studio study to a limited number of highly motivated and talented students.听The BFA student may choose one area of studio emphasis or an interdisciplinary focus where two or three studio areas are represented.听Admission will be l limited not only in terms of capacity but also to ensure the type of record, motivation and the passing of a portfolio review.听Upon failure to pass a second BFA Portfolio Review, students will complete a BASA degree.
Eligible students must have completed 30 hours of Art & Art History credit.听 It is strongly recommended for students to apply before reaching 45 credits in the major.
