From the Chair
Greetings from the Cottage!
We are delighted to announce the hire of Assistant Professor Kristie Soares (PhD Comparative Literature, UCSB), who will arrive at CU 麻豆影院 in Spring 2018. In addition to her work as a performance artist, Prof. Soares specializes in Latinx literatures and cultures, exploring issues of queerness in Caribbean and Latinx communities.
On the teaching front, we have more great news: Associate Professor Celeste Montoya received the Best Should Teach Gold Award for excellence in teaching and outstanding contributions to improving higher education at CU 麻豆影院! In addition to pursuing excellence in the Women and Gender Studies classroom, Prof. Montoya is director of the Miramontes Arts & Sciences Program (MASP), an inclusive academic community comprised of high-achieving, traditionally underrepresented and/or first-generation students.
This May, WGST proudly conferred degrees to 17 majors, 25 minors, and 11 graduate certificate students, making this the largest yet! Please follow the links below for news on graduation and scholarship winners Jacqueline Tillman, Oriana Richmond, Katie Wallace, and Savannah Ducharm as well as this year鈥檚 WGST Excellence in Inclusion award recipients Heraa Hashmi and Toluwanimi Obiwole.
Sincerely,
Lorraine Bayard de Volo
