ÌýDr. Samira Mehta, assistant professor of Jewish studies and women and gender studies, has been named one of the three recipients of this year's Cashmere Subvention award in Jewish Gender, Sexuality and Women's Studies by the Association for Jewish Studies (AJS). This award helps to support scholars publishing books in the field of Jewish Studies, and this year's selection committee noted that Mehta was chosen from "the very strongest group of applications ever submitted." This award will support the publication of Mehta's upcoming book God Bless the Pill: Contraception and Sexuality in Tri-Faith America, which was selected for being both exceptional and distinct. In this book, Mehta examines the role of liberal Jewish and Protestant voices in competing moral logics of contraception, population control, and eugenics from the mid-twentieth century to the present.
