CU's Patricia Nelson Limerick To Discuss New Book April 7

Patricia Nelson Limerick, nationally acclaimed history professor at the University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ, will speak on her new book, "Something in the Soil: Legacies and Reckonings in the New West," on Friday, April 7. The talk will be at 7:30 p.m. in the Humanities Building, room 1B50, on the CU-Â鶹ӰԺ campus. The talk is free and open to the public, and books will be available for sale. Following the lecture, Limerick will sign books at a reception in the CU Heritage Center in Old Main.

April 6 Panel To Discuss New Book On Gold Rush

A distinguished panel of scholars will discuss the new book by CU-Â鶹ӰԺ assistant history Professor Susan Johnson, "Roaring Camp: The Social World of the California Gold Rush," on Thursday, April 6, from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the University Memorial Center room 235. The event is free and open to the public. In addition to Johnson, the panelists will include Nan Boyd, assistant professor of women's studies at CU-Â鶹ӰԺ; Patricia Limerick, professor of history at CU-Â鶹ӰԺ; and Duane Smith, professor of history at Fort Lewis College in Durango.

CU-Â鶹ӰԺ Awarded $220,000 From NSF For Scholarships

A $220,000 award from the National Science Foundation to the University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ will be used to help undergraduates and graduate students with pressing financial needs in the College of Engineering and Applied Science and the mathematics and applied mathematics departments. The two-year award is part of the agencyÂ’s initiative for increasing technical training in the workforce, said Associate Vice Chancellor for Undergraduate Education Michael Grant, the principal author of the winning NSF proposal.

CU's April 4 Crosman Lecture To Address Media And Religion

Diane Winston, fellow at the Center for Media, Culture and History at New York University, will deliver the 2000 Ralph L. Crosman lecture of CU-Â鶹ӰԺ's School of Journalism and Mass Communication on Tuesday, April 4. A former reporter and religion editor, Winston will discuss the boundary between religion and the press in her lecture, "Going Public: Religion and the News Media," which will begin at 5 p.m. in the Humanities Building auditorium, room 150.

CU-Â鶹ӰԺ Presents Eighth Annual Lambda Rising Conference April 8

Academics, activists and community leaders will present works covering various aspects of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered studies and culture at the eighth annual "Lambda Rising: A Queer Studies Conference" on April 8 at the University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ. The Saturday conference will feature panelists discussing GLBT issues, including "Are College Campuses Safe for GLBT Students?" and "Ten Thousand Voices of Gender: A Critical Look at Alternative Gendered Voices from the Last 100 Years."

CU-Â鶹ӰԺ And Australian Researchers Join Forces To Study Reading In Young Twins

Five finalists have been named for the position of dean of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ, according to Todd Gleeson, associate vice chancellor for faculty affairs and search committee chair. The finalists for the position are Del Brinkman, John S. and James L. Knight Foundation; Sharon Murphy, Bradley University; Alexis Tan, Washington State University; John Pavlik, Columbia University; and John Soloski, University of Iowa.

Rosers Donate $2.25 Million For CU-Â鶹ӰԺ ATLAS Building

CU-Â鶹ӰԺ Chancellor Richard Byyny announced today that Jim and Becky Roser have donated $2.25 million in a campaign to assist in the construction of CU Â鶹ӰԺ’s new ATLAS building. The Alliance for Technology, Learning and Society (ATLAS) is a campus-wide initiative dedicated to preparing all students for lives and careers in the new information age. The Rosers and CUÂ’s ATLAS board are actively seeking a match for their personal gift.
