Five University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ students won $100 cash prizes as part of a Constitution Day quiz contest sponsored by the Institute for Ethical and Civic Engagement. Of 412 students who took a difficult 10 question online quiz about the United States Constitution, five scored perfectly and received the prizes, according to Associate Vice Chancellor for Undergraduate Education Michael Grant. The contest concluded the week of Constitution Day, Sept. 17.

The Kicaput Singers and Dancers of Alaska will perform on the University of Colorado campus, Pearl Street Mall and several other Â鶹ӰԺ locations during an Oct. 5-8 visit sponsored by the CU-Â鶹ӰԺ Native American Law Students Association.

CU-Â鶹ӰԺ's 2005 Homecoming festivities kick off Friday, Oct.7, with a parade through Â鶹ӰԺ's University Hill neighborhood at 5 p.m., followed by a pep rally and a free concert on the Norlin Quad at 6 p.m. Chancellor Phil DiStefano will serve as Grand Marshall and Jeremy Bloom, former Buff football player and World-class freestyle skier, will be the parade's Honorary Marshall. The annual event celebrates a return to campus for CU alumni, most of whom will attend CU's gridiron match-up with the Texas A&M Aggies on Oct. 8. Game time is at 5 p.m.

The topping out ceremony for the innovative $32-million ATLAS Center, which will open for classes to 6,000 students on the University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ campus in August 2006, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27. "The building and its programs are unique in their emphasis on uses of technology and digital media by all students, particularly those majoring in the arts, humanities and social sciences," said Bobby Schnabel, vice provost for academic and campus technology and faculty director of ATLAS.

Philip DiStefano, interim chancellor of the University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ, will meet with Fort Collins and Greeley officials Sept. 28 as part of a one-day northern Colorado tour. Joining DiStefano will be Professor Peter Boag, chair of the history department, Associate Professor Rich Wobbekind of the Leeds School of Business and director of the Business Research Division, and biology Professor David Armstrong.

The philosophical foundations of real-world moral dilemmas like looting and abortion are examined in two books by University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ philosophy professors that have recently been honored in the American Philosophical Association's 2005 Book Prize competition.

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ will host a series of events starting with a special informational kickoff rally Sept. 30. The kickoff event, in the British Studies Room of Norlin Library, will run from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. It will feature mammography information presented by Â鶹ӰԺ Community Hospital, a health fair and a rally hosted by CU-Â鶹ӰԺ Interim Chancellor Phil DiStefano at 4:30 p.m.

University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ Professor Joseph Falke of the chemistry and biochemistry department has been elected president of the Biophysical Society, an international, professional group with more than 7,000 members. Founded in 1956 and based in Rockville, Md., the Biophysical Society is made up primarily of research scientists who use physics and chemistry to study molecular problems in biology and medicine. Its members around the world teach and conduct research at universities, laboratories, government agencies and industry.
