Three University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ faculty members have been elected fellows of the prestigious American Association for the Advancement of Science for 2009.

Our entire university community is saddened by the death of Alex H. Singer. By all accounts, Alex was a good student and a valued member of our community. Coming on the heels of the passing of Transito "Tito" Torres last week, this is an extra blow to our community and our student body. Our heartfelt condolences go out to Alex's family, friends and classmates. It's no secret that the emissions leaving a car tailpipe or factory smokestack affect climate and air quality. Even trees release chemicals that influence the atmosphere. But until now, scientists have struggled to know where these organic molecules go and what happens to them once they leave their source, leading to models for predicting climate and air quality that are incomplete or less than accurate.

When Time magazine listed Margaret Mead as one of the 20th century's 100 most influential scientists and thinkers, it described the American icon as the world's "foremost woman anthropologist."
