Four Engineering Faculty, Staff Receive Awards For Outstanding Achievement

Four faculty and staff members of the University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ College of Engineering and Applied Science have received annual college-wide awards for outstanding achievement for 1997. The Charles Hutchinson Memorial Teaching Award was presented to Professor Delores Etter of the electrical and computer engineering department. Etter was honored for authoring college-level textbooks and for her effective classroom teaching.

CU-Â鶹ӰԺ Business School Students On The Mark In Vail Value Competition

HereÂ’s a question for those of you who arenÂ’t afraid of numbers: What is the dollar value of Vail Resorts Inc. and why? This was the problem posed to students at the College of Business and Administration at the University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ who participated in the third annual Shell Financial Analysis Competition. A portion of grant given to the business college by Shell Corporation is earmarked to reward undergraduates in finance each year.

CU-Â鶹ӰԺ's Poker Walk Set May 14 On Campus

The Â鶹ӰԺ Campus Wellness Wednesday program on May 14 will feature the third annual Poker Walk from noon to 1 p.m. beginning and ending outside the Recreation Center. Staff and faculty will walk or run to five designated campus locations to pick up a playing card. Those drawing the best five-card poker hands will win prizes and everyone will receive a prize for participating. Juice and water will be served at each station on the route.

Novel Remote Sensing Project Turns Up Ancient Indian Mining Areas In West

A team of University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ researchers have combined a unique set of remote-sensing techniques to pinpoint a series of eight previously unknown Paleo-Indian quarries in Montana dating back as far as 10,000 years.

CU-Â鶹ӰԺ Employees, Visitors Can Expect Parking Crunch May 16

With about 20,000 people expected to attend University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ commencement exercises May 16 at 9:30 a.m. in Folsom Stadium, carpooling and alternative transportation are recommended for anyone planning to be on campus. The Hop shuttle and RTD buses will be on regular schedules that day. Visitors are advised to arrive early because many parking spaces will be occupied by staff and faculty during regular working hours from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., the first day of summer hours.

CU-Â鶹ӰԺ Faculty Assembly Presents 1996-97 Excellence Awards

Twelve CU-Â鶹ӰԺ faculty members received the highest honor given by their peers May 7 when they were named winners of the 1996-97 Awards for Excellence from the CU-Â鶹ӰԺ Faculty Assembly. Up to four recipients are nominated and selected by their colleagues each spring in each of three categories: teaching, service, and research, scholarly or creative work. Each award includes $3,000.

3,800 CU-Â鶹ӰԺ Students To Get Degrees May 16

Â鶹ӰԺ 3,800 students will receive diplomas May 16 from the University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ in outdoor commencement exercises in Folsom Stadium. Of the diplomas to be presented, about 2,700 will be for bachelorÂ’s degrees, 700 for masterÂ’s degrees and 400 for doctorates. Forty-eight students will earn two diplomas and about 356 will receive their degrees with honors.

CU-Â鶹ӰԺ To Host Conference On Contemporary Legends

The University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ English department will host an international scholarly conference on contemporary or “urban” legends from May 21 to May 24 at the Hotel Â鶹ӰԺado.

CU-Â鶹ӰԺ Law Students Name Wilkinson For Teaching Excellence

Professor Charles Wilkinson of the University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ School of Law has been named the 1996-97 Teaching Excellence Award winner by a vote of law school students. The award, which has been given to top teaching faculty for the past eight years, carries a $1,000 stipend from the Student Bar Association and the DeanÂ’s Fund for Excellence.
