The University of Colorado School of Law has named a nationally recognized constitutional law specialist to head its center for constitutional study. Professor Robert F. Nagel will be the new director of the law schoolÂ’s Byron White Center for the Study of Constitutional Law. "The White Center is a major educational resource for our students and for the community, "said Nagel. "The possibilities are exciting; I am happy to be involved."

The University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ will hold its annual Study Abroad Peer Advising Fair on Wednesday, Sept. 15, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Glenn Miller Ballroom in the University Memorial Center. The fair is free and open to all CU-Â鶹ӰԺ undergraduate students.

The Study Abroad Program at the University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ has awarded more than $94,000 in scholarships and 71 exchange positions to 204 students enrolled in study abroad programs this summer, fall or academic year. The aid comes from the program's auxiliary accounts, alumni donations, the Colorado Commission on Higher Education Diversity Fund and foundation donations. Exchange positions are not monetary awards but a reduction in study abroad program fees worth several thousands of dollars thanks to agreements with certain foreign universities.

Several undergraduate study abroad students at the University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ have received scholarships to study in other countries this summer, fall and academic year. Two diversity scholarships, one awarded by CU-Â鶹ӰԺ and the other by the Colorado Commission on Higher Education, help cover expenses in the Study Abroad program for Colorado residents who are underrepresented on the Â鶹ӰԺ campus because they are ethnic minorities or from the state's rural areas.

Following is an update of campus safety information for the University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ. While this fact sheet doesnÂ’t list every safety measure found on campus, it does provide information about some of the most visible. EMERGENCY CALL BOXES * Nineteen call boxes were installed in 1998-99 at a cost of $300,000, with the final one installed at the corner of 13th and Pennsylvania streets in July 1999. Twelve call boxes were in place previously, bringing the total to 31 emergency call boxes on the main CU-Â鶹ӰԺ campus.

Two CU-Â鶹ӰԺ faculty members are finalists for the 8th annual Colorado Book Awards. Law professor and murder mystery novelist Marianne Wesson is a finalist in the Adult Fiction category for her book, "Render Up the Body." "IÂ’m delighted, of course, especially because it is possible to read ‘Render Up The BodyÂ’ as nothing more than a work of genre fiction," said Wesson. "But I hoped the book would find readers looking not just for a mystery, but also something more. This recognition is very meaningful to me, and very satisfying."

For avid tree peepers, the stateÂ’s quaking aspen colors should be glorious this fall, according to a University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ professor.

The CU-Â鶹ӰԺ Career Services office, in conjunction with the colleges of Business and Engineering, will hold a Career Fair for all CU-Â鶹ӰԺ students on Wednesday, Sept. 22, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Coors Events/Conference Center. The fair is open to CU students only and not to non-student job seekers. The Career Fair will give business representatives an opportunity to provide CU students with literature regarding their companies. Students are encouraged to meet with company representatives and learn about the interviewing process.

The ChancellorÂ’s Committee on Women at the University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ has just released its second annual report. That 16-member committee, a representative group of faculty, staff and students, prepared a report that provides baseline data and recommendations concerning the current status of women on campus. The report formally documents the status of women at CU-Â鶹ӰԺ, analyzes quantitative and qualitative data by gender and ethnicity, and notes trends regarding equity and diversity over the past 10 years.
