CU-Â鶹ӰԺ South Asian Film Series Offers Films Through December

The University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ's Center for Asian Studies and the department of anthropology are presenting 14 films in the South Asian Film Series from October through December. On Tuesday, Oct. 12, two movies in the film series will be shown from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Hale Science Building, room 270. "Tales of Pabuji," is a study of the Rajasthani tradition of story-telling and "Wedding of the Goddess," depicts the celebration of South India's lavish temple festival for Meenakshi, the patron goddess of the city of Madurai, and her brother, Lord Alagar.

Oct. 19 Videoconference And Panel At CU Deals With Preventing Youth Violence

The second of a three-part live satellite broadcast on youth violence, followed by a local panel discussion, will be offered free to the public on Oct. 19 by the Center for the Study and Prevention of Violence at the University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ. The videoconference will be in room 4 of the Coors Events/Conference Center from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m, followed by a panel discussion from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The panel will be moderated by sociology Professor Delbert Elliott, director of the CU-Â鶹ӰԺ center and a national authority on juvenile delinquency.

Search Committee Named For Dean Of CU School Of Journalism & Mass Communication

A 14-member search committee has been named to seek a replacement for Willard "Wick" Rowland, former dean of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ. Rowland recently resigned the dean's position and is on a leave of absence from the faculty to take an appointment as president and general manager of public television station KBDI in Denver. Stewart Hoover, professor of journalism and mass communication, is currently serving as interim dean of the school.

Law School Professors Honored With Rare Books Purchase

The CU-Â鶹ӰԺ Law School Library will add two rare books to its collection in honor of Professors J. Dennis Hynes and Norton L. Steuben to commemorate their appointments as Nicholas Rosenbaum Professors of Law. A ceremony will be held today, Oct. 6, in the Lindsley Memorial Courtroom of the Fleming Law Building at 4 p.m., followed by a reception in the Moorhead-Rutledge Lounge.

Quark Inc. Founder Tim Gill Receives Award From CU-Â鶹ӰԺ College of Engineering

Tim Gill, founder and chairman of Denver-based Quark Inc., has been selected to receive the 1999 Dean's Award for Entrepreneurial Excellence from CU-Â鶹ӰԺ's College of Engineering and Applied Science. He is receiving the award at the college's scholarship banquet on the evening of Oct. 5. Gill earned his bachelor's degree in applied mathematics in 1976 and went on to head a $1 billion computer software company. Quark Inc. is a leader in the high-end electronic publishing and design industry.
