CU-Â鶹ӰԺ Researchers Fail To Find Alternatives To Huge India Earthquake

Following an exhaustive geophysical and historical analysis, a research team led by the University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ believes there are no alternatives to one or more massive earthquakes occurring in India in the near future, threatening millions of lives. "Unfortunately, we have been forced to reach a very undesirable conclusion," said Professor Roger Bilham of CU-Â鶹ӰԺ's geological sciences department. "We set out to try and eliminate the possibility of one or more large, overdue earthquakes in the Himalaya occurring very soon, and we have failed.

CU-Â鶹ӰԺ's INSTAAR To Celebrate 50th Anniversary From Sept. 14-16

A celebration will be held be for alumni and friends with past connections to the University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ's Institute of Arctic and Alpine Research the weekend of Sept. 14 to Sept. 16 to mark the institute's 50th anniversary. A weekend program of science, fun and renewing old friendships is planned for alumni, supporters and friends of INSTAAR. CU-Â鶹ӰԺ MBA Program Addresses Social Responsibility

As they head to the bookstore and become acquainted with campus, new MBA students at CU-Â鶹ӰԺ also will help the community as part of their introduction to the university. To set the tone for the CU-Â鶹ӰԺ MBA program, first-year MBA students will join other members of the community to landscape, weed, paint and do minor repairs to help spruce up the nonprofit September School, located at 15th Street and Canyon Boulevard in Â鶹ӰԺ. September School is an alternative high school with a curriculum that focuses on the arts, community and consequences of personal action.

CU-Â鶹ӰԺ Students Arriving On Campus Late On Aug. 26 Will Encounter Delays

With a close to capacity turnout expected for the first University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ football game of the season, students planning to move onto campus Aug. 26th should anticipate delays in traffic and a shortage of parking. CU-Â鶹ӰԺ classes start Monday, Aug. 27. Students who plan to move into campus residence halls Sunday, Aug 26, are advised to do so early in the day to avoid traffic and parking congestion.

CU-Â鶹ӰԺ Marketing Professor Wins Best Paper Award In France

Meg Campbell, assistant professor of marketing at the CU-Â鶹ӰԺ College of Business, won the best paper award at the Fourth International Research Seminar on Marketing Communications and Consumer Behavior. Her paper, "Brand Familiarity and the Onset of Advertising Wearout" was selected from among 36 papers for the award. The conference, sponsored by the Institute d'Administration des Enterprises, was held in La Londe les Maures, France, in June.

University Club To Be Managed Internally

The University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ has decided to return to internal management of the University Club and the College Inn, Ron Stump, vice chancellor for student affairs, announced today. Stump has appointed Richard Hennessey, a dining service employee with extensive experience in hospitality services management, to serve as interim manager of the two facilities. "Dick Hennessey has substantial experience in the management of similar operations, and will provide excellent leadership," Stump said.

Cindy Donahue And Dale Trevino Named To Student Affairs Director Posts At CU-Â鶹ӰԺ

Cindy Donahue, interim director of Disability Services at CU-Â鶹ӰԺ, and Dale Trevino, interim director of the Cultural Unity Center, have been appointed to the position of director of their respective units, according to Elease Robbins, associate vice chancellor for student affairs and dean of students. Both directors are looking forward to meeting new and continuing CU-Â鶹ӰԺ students at their welcome events on Friday, Aug. 24, and Monday, Aug. 27.

CU-Â鶹ӰԺ Achieves Planned Reduction In Size Of Freshman Class

The University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ will welcome an estimated 4,950 new freshmen for the start of fall 2001 classes on Aug. 27. This year's freshman class is 3 percent under last year's record-breaking class of 5,095. The reduction was planned by university officials in order to ensure on-campus housing for all new freshmen and to enhance the campus experience for incoming students.
