Human-made noise in America's national parks and public lands is a hotly debated topic, and interested citizens are invited to join a panel of experts and advocates looking for solutions during a symposium at the University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ on Feb. 20 and 21.

The demographic and cultural emergence of Mexican Americans in the United States will be addressed by CU-Â鶹ӰԺ Assistant Professor John-Michael Rivera as part of the Chancellor's Community Lecture Series on Wednesday, Feb. 5. His talk will be from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Chautauqua Community House at 900 Baseline Road in Â鶹ӰԺ and is free and open to the public.

CU-Â鶹ӰԺ-Based Colorado Space Grant Consortium Receives $100,000 From NASA

The University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ was awarded a $100,000 grant from NASA for undergraduate aerospace education, research and technology development. NASA hopes the grant will be used to encourage higher education graduates and faculty to become more involved with the space agency.

Noted Tanzanian Director To Visit CU-Â鶹ӰԺ And Screen Film Jan. 29

The Tanzanian director and producer of the first Swahili language film made for worldwide release will appear at the University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ Jan. 29 to show the film and answer questions. Professor Martin Mhando will visit CU-Â鶹ӰԺ to screen his award-winning feature film, "Maangamizi - The Ancient One," at the International Film Series. The 7 p.m. screening in the auditorium of the Muenzinger Psychology building is free and open to the public.

CU Astronaut-Alum Scott Carpenter To Give Talk, Sign Books Jan. 31 On Campus

University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ alum-astronaut Scott Carpenter will be on campus on Friday, Jan. 31, to talk about his new book, "For Spacious Skies: The Uncommon Journey of a Mercury Astronaut." The free talk and book signing will be held in the Old Main Chapel at 5:30 p.m. and is open to the public. Carpenter, the second astronaut to orbit the Earth, grew up in Â鶹ӰԺ and became one of seven Project Mercury astronauts to take part in America's pioneering space program in the 1960s.

Dillard University President Lectures At CU-Â鶹ӰԺ Feb. 4

University Of Colorado Satellite Readied For NASA Launch Jan. 25

An $85 million NASA satellite carrying five instruments designed and built at the University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ to study how and why variations in the sun affect EarthÂ’s atmosphere and climate is slated for launch on Jan 25.

CU-Â鶹ӰԺ Alumna Rockets Into Space With Student Experiments

A University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ alumna was successfully launched into orbit Jan. 16 aboard the space shuttle Columbia, where she'll spend two weeks in space operating student projects that were built and tested at CU-Â鶹ӰԺ. CU-Â鶹ӰԺ aerospace engineering graduate Kalpana Chawla, who is making her second space shuttle flight, is among the seven-person flight crew. Chawla received her doctorate from CU-Â鶹ӰԺ in 1988 and flew on Columbia in 1997. She is one of 15 alumni of CU-Â鶹ӰԺ who have flown in space.
