CU-Â鶹ӰԺ Commencement Parking Made Easy With Early Arrival

With about 4,000 people expected to attend the final University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ summer commencement exercises Aug. 10 at 8:30 a.m. on the historic Norlin Quadrangle, attendees should plan to arrive early. Free parking will be available in the Euclid Avenue Autopark, lot 204 off 18th Street and Broadway, lot 310 off 18th Street and Wardenburg Drive and in lot 308 at Regent Drive and Kittredge Loop Road. Lot 359 and the Regent Drive Autopark are also open and free.

Mary Covell Named Associate Director Of CU-Â鶹ӰԺ UMC

Mary Covell, business manager of the University Memorial Center at the University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ, has been appointed to the position of associate director, according to Carlos Garcia, UMC director. The appointed has been approved by Chancellor Richard Byyny and is effective immediately. She replaces former assistant director J.C. Ancell, who retired in January.

Aurora High School Student Awarded CU Parents Association Scholarship

Ana Gutierrez, a junior ranked second in her class at Aurora Central High School, is this year's recipient of the Leadership, Excellence, Achievement and Diversity scholarship awarded by the CU Parents Association. The award was presented to Gutierrez at a July banquet for high school students who successfully completed the CU-Â鶹ӰԺ Pre-Collegiate Development Summer Residential Program. The award consists of $10,000 divided into four annual supplements of $2,500.

CATECS Director Vince Micucci To Retire, CU-Â鶹ӰԺ Launches Search For Replacement

The University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ is launching a national search for a director of the Center for Advanced Training in Engineering and Computer Science. Vince Micucci, CATECS director, has announced his retirement, effective Feb. 7, 2003. CATECS, a program of the Division of Continuing Education, serves as the distance learning arm of CU-Â鶹ӰԺ's College of Engineering and Applied Science.

CU-Â鶹ӰԺ Launches Search For Communications Director

The University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ has begun a national search for a new executive director of university communications, a position vacated in early July by the departure of Bobbi Barrow who left the university to join Denver Health. Ric Porreca, senior vice chancellor and chief financial officer at CU-Â鶹ӰԺ, has been named chair of the search committee. Porreca said the campus is in the process of selecting members to serve on the search committee, which will begin work immediately. He expects a new executive director will be named during the fall semester.

CU Science Workshop For K-12 Teachers Under Way In Mountains West Of Â鶹ӰԺ

Twenty-five elementary and high school science teachers entered a dream laboratory of forests, ponds, streams and wildlife northwest of Â鶹ӰԺ July 27 to begin a week of living and breathing Earth science. The teachers are participating in Earthworks, an annual professional development program sponsored by CU-Â鶹ӰԺ's Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences, or CIRES.
