10 things to do this weekend: ‘Hack’ the night away, watch the Oscar shorts, more

This weekend brings a selection of Oscar-nominated short films, the T9 Hackathon, a comedy show, a talk with composer Alexina Louie, Bollywood and belly dancing classes, a concert honoring the NAACP freedom fund and more.

Friday, Feb. 17

Learn about a work of art and has them participate in a mindfulness practice. Meditation can help one remain calm, even while facing life’s challenges.

Alexina Louie is navigating Asian identity in Western classical music. This talk discusses how Asian musicians struggle with the search for identity and belonging. Are you interested in seeing Louie perform? She will showcase her works with student and faculty performers at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, in Grusin Music Hall.

Bollywood dance is a form of movement central to the Indian film genre. Enjoy a fun dance class while completing a vivacious workout.

The â€‹2023 Oscar-nominated short films are being presented by the International Film Series. This Friday, animation selections are being shown. More selections are shown throughout the weekend.

Join the program council for popcorn and a free screening of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. In this film, Wakandans will fight to protect their home after the death of King T'Challa.

T9Hacks welcomes traditionally underrepresented students in STEM. Participants will enjoy networking, workshops, free food and more. No coding experience required.


Saturday, Feb. 18

Are you interested in belly dancing? Health and Wellness Services is holding a free lesson this Saturday. Is belly dancing not your thing? Be You-nique is also holding a workshop on Sunday.

David Rodriguez is a successful comedian, originally gaining success by winning the Denver Comedy Works’ prestigious New Faces Competition. Other comedians include Andrea Vahl, Shanae Ross, Haley Raven and Andy Doole

Are you a female or nonbinary person of color? This is a safe and welcoming event for you to practice yoga. Those participating will go through yoga postures and breathing exercises.
