9 things to do this weekend: Celebrating Women in Space and more

This weekend brings International Coffee Hour, a free HIIT workout, β€œHarry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,” open mic night, Recovery at the Rock Gym, student recitals and more.

Friday, Oct. 8

International Coffee Hour

   4–5:30 p.m.    Koelbel Commons Outdoor Patio
Come meet international and domestic students while you enjoy free coffee and snacks. All CU ΒιΆΉΣ°ΤΊ students and faculty are welcome. There will be trivia, so be sure to stop by for a fun Friday afternoon experience!

   5–6 p.m.    Rec Center
Ask a friend to join you at the Rec Center for a HIIT workout! Head to the outdoor fitness court for a functional, full-body workout. This class will use a variety of outdoor equipment including box jumps, agility ladders, rings and pull-up bars.

The CU ΒιΆΉΣ°ΤΊ Space & Sustainability Initiative and the Secure World Foundation are celebrating women in space during World Space Week. Join the academic community and aerospace industry for catering and drinks at 6 p.m. And at 7 p.m., guests will be invited to the Fiske Auditorium to hear from women who are making strides toward space sustainability. After the presentations, stay for cookies and coffee. 

   7:30 p.m.    CHEM 140
Bring your popcorn and a friend and come watch a free movie. Every Friday, Program Council will have a movie showing so you don’t have to worry about Friday night plans! Don’t miss tonight's movie about an orphan boy who enrolls in a school of wizardry, where he learns the truth about himself, his family and the terrible evil that haunts the magical world. Space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Doors open at 7:30 p.m.; the film begins at 8 p.m.

   7–9 p.m.   UMC, The Connection
Calling all performers! Are you a singer, musician, band, comedian, poet, storyteller or have any other talents you want to share with the world? If so, then come perform at Open Mic Night at The Connection’s Club 156. All types of performers, first-timers and experienced artists are welcome. Performer sign-up begins at 6 p.m. at The Connection front desk.


Saturday, Oct. 9

   7–10 p.m.   UMC, The Connection
​Grab a couple of friends and get ready to have a great Saturday night at The Connection! Enjoy the fun of bowling with black lights, colored lane lights and color pins. It’s the only extreme bowling you’ll find in ΒιΆΉΣ°ΤΊ. Also open Friday nights. 

   8:30–10:30 p.m.    Farrand Field
Get your costumes and get ready to dance at the Tropical Paradise Silent Disco Party! Bring a friend and come enjoy some food and drinks while you dance the night away.


Sunday, Oct. 10

   10 a.m. to noon    Rec Center
This event is open to all Buffs in recovery and allies. Enjoy a free afternoon of bouldering and rock climbing at the climbing gym in The Rec. No matter your level or experience, everyone is welcome. Shoe rental is included and free! There will be staff members from the Outdoor Program to help with climbing instruction and advice.

   4:30 p.m., 7:30 p.m.    Grusin Music Hall
The stars of tomorrow are on stage today at CU ΒιΆΉΣ°ΤΊ. The students of the College of Music present works old and new for their degree-qualifying recitals. Join in person or stream from the comfort of your home. You can also catch recitals at 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
