Over the past听two and a half years, the Office of Diversity, Equity and Community Engagement (ODECE) has hosted nationally renowned inclusive pedagogy experts for an ongoing Inclusive Pedagogy Workshop Series.听

Two days of听workshops on Oct. 15-16听in UMC 415 and听417 will serve as a showcase for the series, featuring many of the experts who have previously spoken on campus before.听

New to the series is Gwendolyn Dungy,听who served as executive director of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) from 1995鈥2012 and who听is a senior fellow at the Association of American听Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) in the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Student听Success.听

Returning experts include:听

  • George Kuh, founding director, senior scholar and co-principal investigator at the National Institute for Learning Outcomes Assessment
  • Saundra McGuire, director emerita of the Center for Academic Success at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge听
  • Ashley Finley, senior advisor to the president and vice president of strategic planning and partnerships, Office of the President, AAC&U听
  • Thomas Nelson Laird, associate professor in the Higher Education and Student Affairs Program and director of the Center for Postsecondary Research at Indiana University Bloomington, who directs the Faculty Survey of Student Engagement, a companion project to the National Survey of Student Engagement,听and helps lead the VALUE Institute, a project aimed at the assessment of authentic student work.

The opening plenary session, on Oct. 15听from 8:30鈥10 a.m., is a panel titled 鈥淚nclusive Pedagogy as Opportunities for Innovation鈥 featuring CU 麻豆影院听Provost Russ Moore and the founding director听for the Center for Teaching and Learning, Kirk Ambrose, in addition to Gwendolyn Dungy and Alma Clayton-Pedersen. The panelists will discuss the central role that inclusive pedagogy plays in teaching excellence and student learning outcomes, and how it will be an increasingly vital element of teaching and learning well into the future.

On Oct. 15听from 1鈥2:30 p.m. is a session titled 鈥淏ecoming a Resilient Practitioner of Inclusive Pedagogy,鈥 designed to address some of the challenges the CU 麻豆影院 community has faced in implementing inclusive pedagogies and offer new strategies for newcomers to the discussion.

On Oct. 16听from 8:30鈥10:30 a.m. is the final workshop, titled 鈥淚nclusive Pedagogy: The Way Forward,鈥 which is designed to split into two sub-sessions, focused on implementation and assessment, respectively, while听commenting on the current state of inclusive pedagogy and the scholarship on teaching and learning practices.听
