Two new covered bike shelters are now available for use on CU 麻豆影院鈥檚 East Campus, thanks in part to a $100,000 grant from the Regional Air Quality Council鈥檚 Local Agency Quality Projects grant program.

CU 麻豆影院鈥檚 Bike Program, in partnership with Sustainable Transportation staff, was awarded the grant funding to help cover installation costs of a covered bike shelter at the Sustainability, Energy and Environment Community (SEEC) in the Discovery Drive area of East Campus and a covered, secure bike shelter next to the Administrative and Research Center (ARCE) on the Marine Street side of East Campus. Secured access for the ARCE shelter will officially begin Thursday, Oct. 3.

Grand opening event

Come out and see the new Administrative and Research Center (ARCE) shelter for yourself from 8 to 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2. You鈥檒l be able to register your bike, apply for shelter access and have a breakfast burrito all at the same time!

According to a survey of CU 麻豆影院 affiliates on East Campus, the addition of covered and/or secure bike parking would significantly increase the probability that they would commute by bike to campus and would also reduce the number of cyclists storing their bikes in their workspaces.

The grant submission was based on the premise that providing a secure shelter, along with enhanced outreach to existing and potential cyclists, will increase the percentage of bike commuters, thus reducing vehicle trips, congestion and greenhouse gas emissions. The new secure and covered bike shelters will enhance current bike parking infrastructure on campus and promote bike commuting to the campus community.
