Unwanted household medication disposal unit.

Since 2017, the CU Â鶹ӰԺ Police Department has hosted a drug take-back box in the main floor lobby of the Parking Services and Police Department building at 1050 Regent Drive. The dropbox is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

According to theÌý, the average American household has four pounds of prescription and over-the-counter medications.

Research shows that almost 38 percent of teens who abuse prescription drugs find them in their parents’ medicine cabinet. Safely disposing of unwanted or expired medications helps to reduce drug abuse as well as preventing them from harming water quality and the environment.

In our medication take-back dropbox, we are able to take back over-the-counter and prescription medications with these exceptions:

  • NoÌýneedles or sharps
  • NoÌýmercury (thermometers)
  • NoÌýoxygen cylinders or pressurized canisters
  • NoÌýchemotherapy or radioactive substances
  • NoÌýillicit drugs

In addition to this service, CUPD and CU Health Promotion will be hosting a mobile take-back program on March 13. This event will be held on the sidewalk near the west side of Fiske Planetarium from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Or, you can drop off your medications by vehicle at the passenger/loading zone on the south side of Fiske.
