From searching jobs and internships to making an appointment with a career advisor, Handshake is your one-stop-shop for all things career.

Currently there are more than 6,000 jobs, 2,600 internship opportunities and more than 14,000 employers you can connect with on the platform. Every student and alumni have access to this free tool, so here鈥檚 how to make the most out of Handshake for your job or internship search.

Customizing your profile on Handshake is simple. You can upload your r茅sum茅, work samples, transcripts and other coursework documents you want employers to see.

The more information you add to your account, the more employers you will attract. Add your social media accounts, fill out the 鈥済et to know me鈥 section and highlight your skills. Be sure to make your profile public so employers can find you.

Discover jobs and internships

Once you鈥檝e set up your profile, your page will be loaded with job and internship opportunities. Begin to search for opportunities by typing in your career interest, then customize your search by adding filters like location, job function or listing specific employers you want to work for.

Save your search terms so your profile populates with positions that you know you鈥檇 be interested in. You can also sign up for email notifications for when an employer posts an opportunity that matches with your interests.

Get career tips from employers

Have a question about what it takes to work at Google? Or where to take your sociology degree? Submit your questions on the Q&A section and employers will respond with their industry expertise and career advice. This tool allows students to connect with employers while also getting insider tips for applying for positions you love.

Read reviews from fellow students

You are now able to read honest feedback on work experiences from your classmates on Handshake. This can help you gain insight into a company鈥檚 work culture, mentorship and key takeaways, which is often hard to find through basic internet search. Read about what they liked, what was different and their advice for applying for the job. You鈥檒l be able to make more informed decisions on the opportunities you pursue from this feedback!

Schedule appointments with a career development advisor

If at any point you feel overwhelmed or need help developing a job search strategy, hop over to the Career Center page where you can schedule an appointment with a career development advisor. You are able to schedule 30- or 60-minute appointments for any career-related questions you have including major and career exploration, CliftonStrengths, mock interviews or resume critiques.

Pre-Law and Health Professions students will need to make an appointment through MyCUHub.
