President Donald Trump announced on June 18 his intention to launch a "Space Force," a branch of the U.S. armed forces that would oversee outer space. The decision dovetails with Trump鈥檚 December 2017 directive to NASA to return to the moon.听
Jack Burns, a professor at CU 麻豆影院, is available to discuss this announcement and the emerging space race among businesses and governments to explore and colonize the moon.听
Burns, of the Department of Astrophysical and Planetary Sciences, previously served on the Trump administration鈥檚 NASA Transition Team. He studies the design of astronomical observatories on the moon and how they might act as platforms for scientific research.
