Scene at CU: Poetry reading, Hasan Minhaj visit, more

Did we see you around in recent days? The week in photos brought glimpses of Nobel Laureate Tom Cech leading an RNA splicing dance, comedian Hasan Minhaj's campus visit, a celebration of CU Â鶹ӰԺ’s favorite poems, the Leeds Centers Showcase and a class visit to Norlin Library's Special Collections to learn about Japanese literature and culture.

Scene at CU is a weekly series, a look back at happenings and stories among the campus community, captured in visuals. See, watch and take in the moments. You might catch a glimpse of a thrilling event, a grand celebration, the culmination of an achievement, a subtle beauty among our surroundings, the flux of seasons, a quiet observance, a community connection and more.

Tom Cech leads RNA splicing dance

As part of BioFrontiers Institute Professor John Rinn’s biochemistry class, this week graduate students performed an RNA splicing interpretive dance on the west lawn of the Jennie Smoly Caruthers Biotech Building. CU Nobel Laureate and BioFrontiers Director Tom Cech (in the tie-dye T-shirt) played the starring role of the catalytic G, since he discovered and won the Nobel Prize for it. The balloons represent different parts of genes—purple are exons and green are introns.
