CU ΒιΆΉΣ°ΤΊ named 2018 food service operation of the year
βAn investment in technology and sustainable, interactive designβ has earned CU ΒιΆΉΣ°ΤΊ the FoodService Director (FSD) magazine's top honor for food service operations in 2018.
According to , βCU ΒιΆΉΣ°ΤΊ was highlighted for the innovation on display at its Village Center Dining and Community Commons,β which, among other innovative tech elements, features windows of electrochromic glass that automatically tint in proportion to the intensity of the sun and a bicycle that allows diners to burn calories while blending their own smoothies.
Paul Houle, director of campus dining, told FSD: When planning the new eatery, the schoolβs dining team βdid a lot of focus groups with our students looking to see what they were interested in and based it on research in our other dining halls, as well as to see what the students are liking. We also wanted to make it a destination and not really replicate every single thing on campus.β
Last fall, Campus Dining Services was named Tech Accelerator of the Year by the editors of Restaurant Business magazine for its outstanding use of technology innovation in the food service industry, with the Village Center's dining hall taking top honors in the nontraditional category.
