When: Thursday, March 1, 4 p.m.
Where: Koelbel Building,听room S233
This lecture considers the case for consumer financial regulation in an environment where many households lack the knowledge to manage their financial affairs effectively. Campbell argues financial ignorance is pervasive and unsurprising given the complexity of modern financial products听and that it contributes meaningfully to the evolution of wealth inequality.
He will use听a stylized model to discuss the welfare economics of paternalistic intervention in financial markets听and discuss听several specific examples including asset allocation in retirement savings, fees for unsecured shortterm borrowing听and reverse mortgages.
This event is open to the public, and all are welcome to attend.
