Hello scholars. Happy first week of school! It鈥檚 a beautiful time of year here in 麻豆影院, so go outside and enjoy it before you get too busy with studying.

Our ten things to do this week are听still ripe with all kinds of welcome events and ample opportunities to meet new people. You never know who听you鈥檒l meet, so smile and spread kindness to everyone. As always, have a fantastic week!


Tuesday, Aug. 29

The Herd Alumni Association is throwing an end-of-summer pool party for all of its members tonight from 8 to 10 p.m. at The Rec鈥檚 Buffalo Pool. Drop in to win some prizes, eat some free food, swim a few laps听and meet fellow Herd members in the first fun event of many put on by The Herd every year.

CU 麻豆影院's Women's Resource Center (WRC)听is an incredible resource and helpful place to go if any of you lovely lady Buffaloes out there ever need a helping hand. This afternoon from 1 to 3 p.m. they are throwing a welcome bash in the UMC North Dining Room to kick off another great semester. You can meet WRC volunteers and staff, ask any and all questions, and hang out and make some crafts. All are welcome and invited (the men too)!


Wednesday, Aug.听30

Perhaps the most well-attended networking event of the calendar year, the Be Involved Fair is your annual opportunity to learn about student groups and organizations on campus, find new volunteer possibilities, and get involved in the CU 麻豆影院 community. There will be tons of tables set up from 2 to 6 p.m. at Norlin Quad, all representing a different group and a new opportunity, as well as giving away free food and prizes.


Thursday, Aug.听31

Going away to college for the first time is hard for many reasons, least of which is you may have to start cooking for yourself. But fear not! The Center for Student Involvement has got you covered with free cooking classes every Thursday from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at听the Alfred Packer Grill. This Thursday you鈥檒l learn how to cook teriyaki chicken and rice and then get to feast on your creation. Don鈥檛 forget your closed-toed shoes.

Every night before a big home football game, the CU and local 麻豆影院 communities come together for a huge parade running the length of Pearl Street Mall, featuring the CU Marching Band, dancers and cheerleaders, and a vintage fire truck鈥攏ot to mention your very own football boys and coaching staff. The celebration starts at 7 p.m., so get in on the party and dress to impress in your Colorado attire.

Entrepreneurs Unplugged is a recurring event where you can indulge your interest in business and learn about the process of founding a startup. 麻豆影院 is fertile ground for new, passionate ideas and innovative thinkers. This week鈥檚 meeting from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at听the Wittemyer Courtroom of Wolf Law features Jim Packer, the president of worldwide TV and digital distribution at Lionsgate, to inspire, answer questions听and help you start your own process. This event is free for CU 麻豆影院 students.

Fiske Planetarium hosts a number of moving full-dome shows, but this one is perhaps the most incredible. Bella Gaia is a multi-media performance听featuring music and dance combined with听NASA footage of Earth from space. Spend an evening under the dome听celebrating life on Earth. Tickets are $10 each, and the show starts at 7 p.m.


Friday, Sept. 1

C茅sar Lozano presenta

From 7:30 to 9 p.m., Macky Auditorium hosts C茅sar Lozano, who will give a Spanish-language lecture on facing the adversity of daily life with humor and positivity. If you鈥檙e a Spanish speaker, you won鈥檛 want to miss this moving and profound bit of wisdom. Tickets start at $38.50.

De las 7:30 hasta las 9 esta noche, el Auditorio Macky acoge al C茅sar Lozano, quien impartir谩 una conferencia en espa帽ol para enfrentar la adversidad de la vida diaria con humor y positividad. Si usted es un hispanohablante, no querr谩 perderse este conferencia profunda y sabio. El precio de admission es $38.50.

Don your black and gold,听and get out to support your Buffs football team in arguably the most important game of the season: when we take on our rivals from the north. Held in the Sports Authority Field at Mile High in Denver, this is certainly the biggest, most fun football game you鈥檒l go to.听Game starts at 6 p.m., and tickets start at $30.

Every Friday at 4 p.m.听the International Students & Scholars Service hosts a fun coffee hour social at the Center for Community (C4C), room S355, where you can catch up on your international trivia, meet some cool new friends听and get free food! All are welcome, whether you鈥檙e an international student or not. Just bring your Buff OneCard.
