Although one鈥檚 odds of being involved in an active harmer situation are close to the chances of being struck by lightning, people who have undergone training and find themselves in the midst of such an incident have a much higher probability of survival.

The CU 麻豆影院 Police Department听(CUPD) offers a听听on workplace violence and active harmer response and prevention, generally held for entire departments upon request.听In February, they听launched sessions focused specifically on active harmer response open to the entire campus community and saw great success with the new course format.

The next active harmer training sessions are听scheduled for听9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15,听at Old Main Chapel.

The free course, led by a CU police officer, introduces basic response options for an imminent harm situation.听The class will review basic statistical data on active harmer incidents and screen the 鈥淪hots Fired!鈥 video as a group. After watching the video, the class will discuss how to react if you ever find yourself in one of these situations.

Every effort is made to address concerns, dispel myths and develop response options. This course is designed as a reactive training on how to respond if an incident occurs, regardless of whether it occurs on campus or elsewhere.
