Flower bed near the UMCWeather permitting, 听will conduct two separate applications of the pre-emergent herbicides Pendulum 2G and Gallery 75DF to limited campus landscape beds beginning March 23听through March 31.听

Weather permitting, the applications will begin on East Campus March 23听and听24听and then move to Main Campus during the week of spring break, March 25 through March 31.听Each individual landscape bed will receive only one product.

There will be no听herbicide applications to any turf areas, designated pollinator gardens听or any areas maintained by the Housing Facility Services Grounds Department.

Pendulum 2G (EPA Reg. No. 241-375) is a synthetic granular herbicide with the active ingredient Pendimethalin. Gallery 75 DF (EPA Reg. No. 62719-145) is a synthetic liquid herbicide with the active ingredient听Isoxaben. These two products have pre-emergent weed-control properties, and the听application will help break the reproductive cycle of the broadleaf weeds that typically infest the campus bed areas.

As a further effort to ensure the highest standard of health and environmental protection, Facilities Management staff will ensure only predetermined locations receive a treatment, applications are stopped during high-wind gusts and/or sustained wind events, applications are halted as pedestrians pass by, and that all necessary precautions are taken to avoid non-target impacts.听

Guidelines for pesticide use are generally described in the campus .听This application is just one of many tools used as part of an integrated approach to landscape/weed management.

Staff will also be placing yellow application-notice flags that will indicate where the application was made.听Law requires these flags remain in place for 24 hours after an application has been made.听In the interest of keeping the campus community informed, staff will leave these flags in place for one full week after the application occurs.
