Rocky Mountain Showdown CU vs CSU

Greetings, fellow Buffaloes! I hope you鈥檙e all well acclimated by now to the new semester and the mountain air.听I am Sarah Ellsworth: IPHY major, 麻豆影院 native, and event connoisseur, writing to you from the comfort of beautiful CU听麻豆影院 on all of your weekly opportunities for community involvement, educational whatnot and supreme fun. Texas Hold鈥檈m poker tournament.听Whether you鈥檙e a card shark or a newbie player, come compete in a fast-paced tourney at The Connection in the UMC today at 7pm (sign up by 6pm). Prizes will be awarded and competition will be high level, so bring your poker face and maybe a friend or two!

Center for Student Involvement grand opening.听The Center for Student Involvement gives me a run for my money where advertising fun events is concerned and they are a fantastic resource for any and all Buffs looking to get involved or just attend some cool happenings. Check out their grand opening in UMC 330听from 2 to 4 p.m. to learn about involvement opportunities and enjoy the multitudinous games, prizes听and food that will be handed out.

Student Employment open house.听If you could use a couple extra bucks to spend this semester, then you may consider attending the Student Employment Open House at The Regent Administration听Center room 205 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. There you can peruse job opportunities and work-study options, as well as get any and all questions answered in a low-stress environment.

Academic coaching walk-in hours.听We all know school can be stressful and classes may be difficult. If you need some help navigating such challenges and getting expert advice on juggling classes, homework听and studying, then swing by Flemming 190 between 12 and 3 p.m. for some free academic coaching al谩 the SASC Academic Success Team. They can point you in the right academic direction and set you up for success this and every semester.

Study Abroad Fair.听What鈥檚 one of the most common things alumni recommend for CU students? Study abroad! CU has a fantastic study abroad program, with opportunities in 65 countries ranging from studying to research to internships, and you can browse and investigate them all at the听study abroad fair held at the UMC Fountain from 10:30 a.m.听to 2 p.m. There will be plenty of people there to answer any questions you may have, including study abroad program staff and students who have already completed a study abroad.

Ralphie鈥檚 Cooking Basics.听For those for whom college presents the new and exciting feeding-yourself challenge, there is Ralphie鈥檚 Cooking Basics, a free every-Thursday cooking class that meets outside the Alfred Packer Grill in the UMC at 5:15. Wear closed-toed shoes and sign up before the class begins. This week鈥檚 lesson is calzones, everyone鈥檚 favorite pizza-sandwich love child.

Pearl Street Stampede.听Students and locals alike congregate on Pearl Street Mall the night before a football game to get rowdy with music, dancing听and a parade led by a fire truck in support of the CU Buffs. The festivities generally happen between 7 and 8 p.m. and move west down 麻豆影院鈥檚 favorite walking mall, so be sure to be there in black and gold and ready to celebrate.

Rocky Mountain Showdown.听鈥楾is the season for a little friendly rivalry in the football medium; your CU Buffs Football team takes on the CSU Rams in the annual Rocky Mountain Showdown held at the Sports Authority Field (formerly known as Mile High Stadium) in Denver. Bring your sportsmanlike attitude and your Buffs听T-shirts and come support your fellow Buffaloes!

International Coffee Hour.听Everyone is welcome at听the International Coffee Hour, home of stimulating conversation, free food, and prizes to win, which takes place weekly at 4pm in the UMC Dining Room. This is a great place to meet some new people, relax, and enjoy a low-key afternoon of socialization.

Complete the health insurance requirement.听All CU 麻豆影院 students must have health insurance, per university regulation, so be sure to update your health insurance preferences before Sept.听16. You can opt for the University鈥檚 Gold Health Plan or provide you own from your family or employer, but you will have to waive the Gold Plan if that鈥檚 the case. Be sure to get this done now!听.
